Portland Pizza Week 2019 Is Almost Here

Portland has some great food-themed weeks (and months), and the next one on the docket is Pizza Week, produced by the Portland Mercury. From Monday through Saturday, April 15-20, over 40 slices at pizzerias across the city will be available for just $2.

This year there are plenty of puns in the names of the slices: Moroccan Your World, Over Acheeser, This Is Spinal Hatch, and Taco’n It to the Streets, to start. Nice job, everyone.

Fire and Stone To Close End of February in Portland

Dreamy wood oven roasted olives at Fire and Stone are magic.

This morning I read the news on Instagram that Fire and Stone, a wood-fired restaurant in the Alameda/Beaumont-Wilshire area, is closing. The news made me quite sad, as I’ve been a fan of the restaurant since before I moved to Portland. When I was the editor of Northeast Neighbors magazine, we featured them there, and a number of local folks I interviewed over the months also spoke highly of them. I’ve eaten a number of meals there. Before the first week of 2018 is over, I wanted to review the top posts of 2017 to see what people were reading. Turns out the most popular topic is… pizza. Portland is an excellent pizza town, so it’s understandable. The article about Chin’s Kitchen closing for a short week for renovations was the top post, thanks in a big part to the Oregonian linking to us. Thanks, guys.

I thought because it’s the end of the year, I’d expand the top posts from the traditional 5 to 10—so here we go!

Portland: Let There Be Pizza On Earth in December

My pizza heart belongs to Pizzeria Otto but we have an open relationship.

Probably the kind of food I’ve eaten the most in Portland is pizza. Blame it on my time in NYC where pizza is like a religion, or the fact that pizza is simply delicious. So when I heard about Pizza On Earth, I thought, “what a great way to eat pizza and do some good at the same time!”
