One of Pizzeria Otto’s delicious Neapolitan-style pies
While perusing Facebook, I came across this post by the good folks at the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association:
Permit filed by Pizzeria Otto on 1-April for a new location in the 72Foster building. What do you think FoPo? Can we take another pizza joint #FoPoPizzaRow
Dreamy wood oven roasted olives at Fire and Stone are magic.
This morning I read the news on Instagram that Fire and Stone, a wood-fired restaurant in the Alameda/Beaumont-Wilshire area, is closing. The news made me quite sad, as I’ve been a fan of the restaurant since before I moved to Portland. When I was the editor of Northeast Neighbors magazine, we featured them there, and a number of local folks I interviewed over the months also spoke highly of them. I’ve eaten a number of meals there. I am sure everyone is sorry to see them go. Continue reading “Fire and Stone To Close End of February in Portland”
Before the first week of 2018 is over, I wanted to review the top posts of 2017 to see what people were reading. Turns out the most popular topic is… pizza. Portland is an excellent pizza town, so it’s understandable. The article about Chin’s Kitchen closing for a short week for renovations was the top post, thanks in a big part to the Oregonian linking to us. Thanks, guys.
I thought because it’s the end of the year, I’d expand the top posts from the traditional 5 to 10—so here we go!
Welcome to another edition of First Tastes, were we showcase good eats at new-to-us spots in Portland. This city is full of delicious food and lots of places to check out, so no doubt this column will run for some time.
My pizza heart belongs to Pizzeria Otto but we have an open relationship.
Probably the kind of food I’ve eaten the most in Portland is pizza. Blame it on my time in NYC where pizza is like a religion, or the fact that pizza is simply delicious. So when I heard about Pizza On Earth, I thought, “what a great way to eat pizza and do some good at the same time!”
While walking in the neighborhood, I spied this poster up at the Hollywood Sizzle Pie.
Yes, the Santa Slice is making a return. From what I could tell from online media, they did this in 2015 and it caused a lot of buzz. As you can see in the photo, the Santa Slice is an 18-inch slice—basically the size of a whole pizza.
