Get Your Fill of Figs at The Third Annual Fig Fest!

OMG figs.

Mark your calendars! The third annual Fig Fest is this Sunday, September 22 from 10am-5pm out at One Green World Nursery, located in the Southeast Portland neighborhood of Pleasant Valley (and not too far from the Leach Botanical Garden, which, if you haven’t been to yet, you need to visit). Figs are one of the most wonderful fruits and I came to love them when I lived in Queens where fig trees (and grape vines) were pretty much everywhere (thanks, Greek and Sicilian immigrants).

All sorts of things will be happening that day: fig tastings of various varieties, gardening and permaculture info, educational booths, more fruit tastings, specialty art and products, and more. Plus, you can get select trees—including fig trees—up to 20% off. If you’re looking to plant a fruit tree, this might be just the time to do that.

The good folks at One Green World Nursery gave us even more details:

This is our third annual Fig Fest and it is expected to be our biggest one yet! We plan to have 10 different fig varieties available to taste test along with local vendors and other community influences. A local restaurant, Kuchenhaus, will be catering the event serving farm-to-table plant-based German food.

We will also have three classes on the hour from 1pm-3pm lead by instructor Lydia Parsley who has a background in locally-sourced food products and small-scale sustainable agriculture. To top it off, we will have raffles and prizes, music, and discounted fruit trees.

We have put in a lot of effort to improve our retail space so it will also serve as an opportunity to unveil the changes for our customers who have not seen the space in a while. We hope to see everyone there!

BTW, admission is FREE.
