Yucatecan Taqueria La Mestiza Is Expanding

Beloved Madison South area Taqueria La Mestiza is growing! According to a post on Nextdoor, they are “expanding into the space next door (previously an insurance office).” La Mestiza, which opened in 2016, was recently included in a great roundup in The Oregonian of local Yucatecan places in Portland, highlighting dishes like pavo en relleno negro (available only on weekends), panuchos, salbutes, poc chuc and cochinita pibil (available all week).

I stopped by this morning and saw them working in the aforementioned space next door—current address of 8515 NE Fremont Street. They seem pretty well along—there’s an entry way built out between the two properties, some paint on the walls, and additional seating just waiting to be used. It will likely be a couple of weeks before they are open in their newly expanded space.

I look forward to seeing the new space when it’s ready and get my fill of delicious Yucatecan food. Glad to see this quality local spot is doing well.
