If you’re like me, Thanksgiving food is on your mind this week. And while turkey (roasted or deep fried?), cranberry sauce (canned or homemade?), and pie (pumpkin or pecan?) are easy to obsess about, for a change of pace consider the French macaron—and La Fête du Macaron at Pix Patisserie that starts on Thanksgiving day and lasts through the weekend. I’ve had Pix’s macarons and can say with assurance that they are some of the best in Portland.
The celebration of the macaron will take place in Pix Patisserie’s vending machine, the Pix-O-Matic, and that means you can access the macarons 24/7 during the festival. There will be 24 different flavors in themed 6-piece boxes, each for $18:
- THE CLASSICS: Pistachio, Rose, Espresso, Raspberry, Salted Caramel, Chocolate
- BE A KID AGAIN: Birthday Cake (contains gluten), S’Mores, Candy Cane, Apple Pie, Chocolate Cinnamon, Lemon Poppy Seed
- HAPPY HOUR: Bourbon, Pina Colada, The Dude (a White Russian macaron in bowling ball formation), Margarita, Sherry Almond, Tawny Port
- WHO CAN TAKE A RAINBOW: Strawberry Balsamic, Passion Fruit, Coconut Curry, Kalamansi Lime, Blueberry, Cassis Violet
Macaron-Themed Items and Coloring Contest
Along with the macarons themselves, the Pix-O-Matic will have macaron-themed items available for purchase like pet toys, kitchen and bath accessories, and jewelry. Macaron template nonstick baking mats are also available for $20 in the Pix-O-Matic or by special order.
On top of that, you—no matter how old you are—are encouraged to enter the macaron coloring contest for a chance to win a tasting box of all 24 macaron flavors. Instructions: “Download the template from the website or pick one up next to the Pix-O-Matic. Work your creative magic, then submit it in the drop box at the restaurant, where it will be on display for the weekend. Pix-O-Matic visitors will be the judges. The work of art that gets the most smiles wins!”
To enter, submit your masterpiece by Wednesday, November 24.

Gastro Obscura Joins Pix-O-Matic
And on the topic of vending machines, the Gastro Obscura vending machine is visiting the Pix-O-Matic with offerings worth taking a gander at—the new Gastro Obscura book being one of them. Enjoy!
