I miss Beeswing’s Cully porch and their delicious dutch baby, among other things. Sadly, I never made it to their Sellwood location (thanks, COVID).
One story I found popping into my brain from time to time this past year was about Beeswing, the formerly boss brunch spot in Cully that closed down and moved to Sellwood in 2019 (opening February 1, 2020). I’ve been wondering what happened to them, so I did a bunch of internet research and came up with what seems like a sotto voce ending to the story.

Beeswing’s buildout posted on their Kickstarter page.
If you remember, they ran a Kickstarter (full disclosure: I supported it) that was successful. They found a location in Sellwood (the old Laurelwood Brewing space), did the buildout, opened and served meals. Pivoted in spring 2020, because COVID. Posted to social media through October 2020. Then, this appeared on their website:

From what I can tell, that was kind of it. There was no most social media posting after that—Instagram went quiet, the Facebook page is gone, the website has closed down. People—including myself—have wondered what’s up. My guess is that the pandemic was the killer; so many restaurants have been shuttered during this era.
The company Marissa Lorette and Ian Watson created in 2019, Beeswing LLC, achieved Administrative Dissolution on October 7, 2021. Theoretically it could be reinstated. But after all this time has passed, that’s a long shot. I’d be happy to be proven wrong, though.
Whatever Marissa and Ian are doing with their lives today, I wish them only the best. I thank them for all their work and for creating so many delicious things over the years. Looking forward to seeing what other food-oriented work they find themselves doing in the future.
I’ll leave you with another Beeswing, a song by one of my favorite musicians, Richard Thompson.
