Level Up Your Pie-Making Skills In June

Although we often talk about pie-making around the fall and winter holidays, spring and summer are also the times of the year when pie is the perfect vehicle to support the deluge of delicious seasonal fruits (and some vegetables) that happens then (now!)—whether you buy them in the grocery store or the farmers market, get them in your CSA box, or grow your own. The Pacific NW CSA (PNWCSA) Coalition is here to help you get the most out of your pie-making with a masterclass in June, with help with both pie pastry and fillings.

Piper Davis, author of the The Grand Central Baking Book, is leading the class in her home kitchen. During the class she will teach the participants how to make the perfect all-butter crust with lattice top (truly mystifying to some of us), and how to adapt and select seasonal fillings (both and sweet and savory) to make delicious homemade pies. Fresh, seasonal ingredients will be on hand to use for the pie fillings.

While the pies are baking, you’ll get to enjoy a glass of wine and charcuterie snacks over conversation about honing your cooking skills while using seasonal ingredients. At the end of the class, everyone will go home with a pie, pie crust for your freezer and a signed copy of Piper’s cookbook.

The Pie Master Class is on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 1pm to 4pm. Cost is $150. Space is very limited so reserve your spot today! The organizers ask that you please bring your own apron. Register here (class location will be emailed upon registration).

Proceeds from the event will go toward PNWCSA programs that support local farmers and community supported agriculture.
