New Food Cart Pod Coming to Brooklyn

Looks like a new food cart pod is coming to the Brooklyn neighborhood. I saw an Instagram post about it over the weekend and did a little digging. It’s going to be on the site that was formerly home to La Carreta Mexican Restaurant.

Much of the food cart pod project’s footprint is going to occupy a triangular section of land at the intersection of Holgate and McLoughlin that was mostly a parking lot—and in fact, it looks like parking will again be implemented there. The site plan indicates La Carreta’s building is no more, replaced by what looks like a new structure. A permit was filed in 2020 for this address, indicating, “Site redevelopment, including demolition of existing structures and construction of a new (5) dispense fuel facility.” I’m unsure as to where the gas station part will be.

As for the details of this pod project, the permit, set up in late July 2022, states the following:

“20 carts, an indoor seating area, and an indoor beer vendor. There will be roughly 25 parking spots and outdoor seating. The new building will be roughly 2,500 sq ft and 20 ft tall. Stormwater will be addressed with planters and drywells. Applicant will be going through a lot consolidation. Both of the current lots are lots of record that were established before 1979.”

On the other hand, Lloyd Development states there will be 21 food carts and 30 parking spaces. So, it’s essentially six of one, a half dozen of the other. They also boast that it’s near the Ross Island Bridge, but looking at the map, I guess … kinda.

As to when this pod will open, that is unknown at this point. But it should be a nice addition to the neighborhood. I’ll keep an eye on it and share any news I find about it.
