Coq Au Vin from Sea Breeze Farm/NeverStill Ranch Has Opened in NW Portland

As I was doing some research, I was very happy to come across the news that the folks from Sea Breeze Farm, originally from Vashon Island and now operating at NeverStill Ranch near Birkenfeld, Ore, have established themselves full time in NW Portland as Coq Au Vin. I’m really intrigued about their arrival and future offerings here in Portland.

George Page, the founder of Sea Breeze Farm, wrote about the move in his blog:

“Triggered by the premature failure of the Magic Meat Truck’s engine that fateful April Fool’s Day, Rose and I have been swept forward by a sequence of decisions and events which have led us to a landing these two months hence.  We have successfully navigated the challenging intricacies of regulations and permitting, securing a safe haven from which to deploy our evolving enterprise. Following several weeks of immense effort and the surprisingly expedient support of regulatory agencies we are proud to announce our new base of operations in Portland, Coq Au Vin.” It is nice to hear someone in this town is having a positive experience with Portland permits.

At Coq Au Vin they will offer what Sea Breeze has offered for years: humanely-raised, grass-pastured meats—fresh and cured. NeverStill Ranch, where the animals are raised and live, implements regenerative agriculture practices, which means healthier food overall. They offer artisan cheeses, too.

What it looks like now, at least, is that they will operate the aforementioned Magic Meat Truck out of the building at 2376 NW Thurman Street. In fact, last fall they were there once a week (Michael Zusman wrote about it for Willamette Week last October), but now they will be open for five days a week—currently Thursdays through Sundays from 11am to 7pm.

But they don’t plan to just stop with having the truck parked there and selling out of it. “As this new project unfolds we will be expanding our offerings to include items from local farmers, foragers, fisheries and food artisans.  We are also eager to once again bring pleasure to the palates of our followers by sharing our passion for farm to table cuisine with onsite dining experiences, in a redux of our La Boucherie days on Vashon Island. We can’t wait to bring together a community of friends old and new into our culinary haven on the shores of Portland!” They are looking to offer alcoholic beverages, too.

They also want to do some pop-ups here in Portland, too.

Welcome, Coq Au Vin! I look forward to stopping by soon.
