Sebastiano’s Opens in Sellwood

Sebastiano’s soft opening in Sellwood is today.

Sebastiano’s—that wonderful Sicilian/Italian-American shop, bakery, and deli that started out in Montavilla in 2020—has fully moved to Sellwood. Their grand opening is Thursday, March 7, but they had a soft opening today. I stopped by and was so happy to see how the business has been able to expand and flourish in this much larger space on SE 13th Avenue.

The first thing you notice is the courtyard and beautiful sign as you approach their front door.

There are a bunch of picnic tables in this courtyard patio, which means plenty of outdoor seating. Perhaps at some point they will add heaters to this space, which would be really nice; I’m betting they’ve already thought of this.

When you enter and look to your left, you see this gorgeous wallpaper on the back wall with citrus fruit on it.

There are plenty of seats inside, too—a major difference from their tiny but sweet space in Montavilla. This little corner image is a fraction of what is in there.

You can see out to the patio from some of the indoor seats.

I have had a low appetite over the past few days (stress and some sad news), so I wanted something light. The tomato soup with ham and cheese focaccia “slider” was perfect and really hit the spot. The soup had these nice pieces of fried basil on it, and it is thickened with arborio rice, which is what gives it the smooth texture and surprising heft. There is very little cream in this soup. It was very comforting, which is exactly what I needed. I highly recommend dipping the slider in the soup.

It was nice with the Amaro spritz (NA). Click to enlarge.

Also: today they were offering these little ricotta donuts with a citrus curd that were really fantastic.

I loved these illustrated signs of different items they offer (click to enlarge). I’m partial to the ricotta cake, which I had at my wedding reception last May.

They offer various pantry goods and wine.

After I finished lunch, I headed up to the counter to get a few things to take home with me.

Here they are! Everything is so beautiful … and delicious.

Rainbow cookies are some of my favorite cookies in all the lands.

I asked them if they were going to offer coffee and the answer is yes. But it will be drip, as neighboring Cinco Siete makes excellent lattes (I had an almond milk latte from them on the way out and I can confirm that it was very good—all of their coffee comes from Central and South America).

Big congrats to Dan, Elise, and the whole Sebastiano’s family. The new space is really great and it must be so much easier to do a lot of things now. Head over there and enjoy what they have to offer—it’s so good! Their new hours are Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
