First it was Monster Smash; then it was Lawless BBQ. Now, the latest food cart to hit the back patio at My-O-My is Ooba, offering sushi nigiri and rolls, bowls, and more.
Lawless BBQ was on My-O-My’s back patio from November 2023 to about July 2024, offering tasty ‘cue and sides, but in the end it didn’t work out for them to stay. And for the past couple of months the bar has been offering sandwiches, chips, and Renata pizzas. And while the options weren’t really my bag, I’m glad they were able to offer something to eat.
In late August, I heard a rumor that a sushi cart (unnamed) was going to be the next cart on the patio but was warned not to spread the news because the involved parties (the bar and the cart) hadn’t yet signed an official contract. In that same conversation, I learned that My-O-My also has new owners.
The new cart, Ooba, is owned and operated by Ryan Berklovich, formerly of Syun Izakaya (source: Eater). They have a new Instagram account but that’s about it as far as their online presence goes. The menu is up on the My-O-My Instagram (or, click images below). There, they highlight the rolls (“island-inspired”), nigiri, poke specials, tempura, and snacks available from Ooba.

They also have shared the hours of operation: 3pm to midnight. And there will be a sushi happy hour for the final two hours, 10pm to midnight.
As for the name of the cart, “ooba” in Japanese refers to the leafy part of the perilla/shiso leaf.
As someone who loves stopping in at My-O-My and loves sushi (shoutout to my GOL Sushi Club pals), this is a perfect combination. Sumner neighbors I’ve talked to are also pretty chuffed about the new cart. I look forward to checking out Ooba very soon!
