Welcome to another edition of our monthly top 5 posts list—November 2024 was another good month for Bridgetown Bites. Over 22,600 unique visitors generated almost 30,000 page views. Popular posts included our list of Thanksgiving resources at the top of the heap. Interestingly enough, our article on Fancy Baby was also in the top 5, along with a long-time restaurant closing, a far-future opening of a new public market, and some pizza.

As always, thanks to you for reading, sharing, and commenting—and for your tips!

5. Fancy Baby Will Bring “The Craziest Champagne List” to NW Portland

Thanks to a Bridgetown Bites tipster, I’ve learned that new wine and Japanese-inspired listening bar called Fancy Baby is going to open in the Pearl District. This location on NW Glisan used to be home to CULT, a store that sold art, collectibles, ephemera, and more. Update: They are now open.

4. Broadway Pizza Shoppe Will Open on NE 15th Avenue

A new pizzeria is coming to northeast Portland: Broadway Pizza Shoppe. They will be located in the old Benditos Latin Fusion space on NE 15th Avenue, which opened April 17 of this year. Previously, and for a number of years, it was home to Blossoming Lotus, which closed just a couple weeks earlier on April 3. Update: They plan to open Thursday, December 5.

3. An Early Site Visit at the James Beard Public Market

The two buildings that will make up the James Beard Public Market in Portland, Oregon

Last week I had a chance to join local media for an early site visit at the James Beard Public Market. These two buildings—the ground floor of the 100-year old Selling Building at SW 6th and Alder (610 SW Alder) and its neighbor, the old Rite-Aid (622 SW Alder)—will bring a world-class public market back to Portland. And it was pretty cool to see the insides and envision what is to come.

2. 3 Doors Down Cafe Has Closed

Dining room at 3 Doors Down.

In the words of the band that shares the same name, “I’m here without you, baby, but you’re still on my lonely mind”: the 3 Doors Down Cafe has closed. Active since the 1990s, this is another instance of “old Portland” leaving—and yet another restaurant closure in these strange economic times. Update: Look for a follow-up piece on the closing.
