Original Dream Pizza Will Open on NE Glisan Street in Portland

Resurrecting American Dream Pizza in Portland, Oregon.

Original Dream Pizza is a new pizzeria opening up in the old American Dream Pizza space on NE Glisan Street. Back in July 2024, American Dream Pizza on NE Glisan Street closed, and we’ve been wondering what is happening there. Now we know.

I first caught wind of this development on Reddit in March, where a user posted photos they saw on the brown papered up storefront windows. There was a message scrawled on it: “Don’t call it a comeback. Original Dream Pizza Spring ’25.” They have a website and an Instagram, but not much has been posted on them right now.

American Dream Pizza Closed

An Oregonian article reported on the closing of American Dream Pizza, and shared the message posted on the front door (I’m seeing a pattern here): “American Dream Pizza is temporarily closed for cleaning and minor remodeling. We are looking for (new) ownership. If you are interested please email americandreamportland4sale@gmail.com.”

Apparently they had plans to sell the business to some longtime employees, but that fell through, leading to the closing of the pizzeria.

Who Is Behind Original Dream Pizza?

Looking at the ORSOS registration, the people behind the business are Daniel and Amy Northrop. Daniel is a founding partner behind Streamline Imagine. They handle “digital document solutions and eDiscovery solutions in the Portland legal community.”

My understanding is that they are the business partners—and were fans of American Dream Pizza—and Chris Pfeiffer, who you may know from The 1905, is running the revival of the pizzeria. To be clear, Chris is part of the new management of The 1905 and is not associated with the previous owner Aaron Barnes, who left amidst controversy.

Some Details on the Comeback

I reached out to the people at Original Dream Pizza in late March and early April a few times to hear what’s up straight from the horse’s mouth, but got a minimal response. However they did speak to The Oregonian and shared a number of details with them.

Takeaways from the resulting article in The O include that they (the Northrops and Pfeiffer) were able to negotiate a lower asking price for the business with Sebastian Malinow, one of the founders of American Dream Pizza; there was a necessary name change (there is still an American Dream Pizza in Corvallis); and a pledge “to keep the pizzeria’s recipes and signature braided crust.” Side note: that look of that braided crust reminds me of the look of the crust on Blind Onion‘s pizzas.

I can tell from comments I’ve seen online that there is growing excitement for this place to re-open.

It looks like a late spring opening, “old school vibes,” and all. If Chris gets in touch and shares any new information, I’ll pass it on here.
