A new brewery and taphouse from Allgood Brewing is opening in that building just south of the Farmhouse Carts pod (a space just north of Cibo on SE 35th Place. They’ll bring beer, food, and more to this location in the heart of the Richmond neighborhood.

Lease Adventures for Allgood Brewing, and Previous Tenants

I originally reached out to Tiara and Derrick Allgood back in June to find out more about Allgood Brewing, but they weren’t really able to talk about anything at that point in time. I also think they were hesitant to say much, as not long before that they had a potential space fall through and some lease complications. In May they posted this to Instagram:

“…the location we were supposed to be signing a lease for decided after months and months of back and forth (and being lead to believe they were going to lease it to us) that they don’t even want to lease it as a brewery at all anymore.”

Disappointing, to say the least.

They were close to signing a lease in July, got closer in early August, then later that month they announced they had a location: 2425 SE 35th Place. Looks like this has been the location of a few beverage businesses: Migration Brewing, and Oui! @ the SE Wine Collective, and the Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider Taproom, just to name a few.

Tiara and Derrick, Co-Owners of Allgood Brewing

Tiara and Derrick Allgood are a married couple who have dreamed of bringing their own brewery to life. In the “a tale as old as time” category, the COVID pandemic brought their plans to a halt over five years ago. So they are pretty chuffed that they are making this happen now.

Derrick

Derrick is in charge of the brewing duties. He got his start in the homebrewing world, helping his uncle with his brewing projects. Derrick was in middle school at the time, so he had quite an early start in this world. According to them, his uncle liked to joke that, “Brewing is so easy a 12-year-old could do it!”

This launched his journey to learn all he could about the process of brewing beer, with the ultimate goal of becoming a brewer and own his own brewery. He started his career a Widmer Brewing as a Packaging Line Tech, then spent five years as a Brewing Assistant a Fearless Brewing. He also had a stint at Laurelwood Brewing.

He even worked with nerds—“science nerds”—at McMenamins Edgefield, to learn more of the technical side of brewing beer.

On Instagram, Tiara sings his praises: “Derrick has been in the industry for almost 10 years now brewing for industry legends such as Fearless, McMenamins, and Laurelwood. He’s been home brewing since before he was allowed to add the yeast. This guy knows his shit. If you’ve ever met him, you know he’s like one of the best people to have around as he makes everyone feel like they can talk to him about anything and everything.”

Tiara

She takes on more of the behind-the-scenes kind of roles and she is a badass in her own right: She works as an electrician. Very cool—I have often said that if I had to do it all over again, I’d train to be an electrician. The trades are important.

Together they are committed to bring you great beer and food, and a comfortable space in which to enjoy them— with an easygoing, family-friendly vibe. “A dream that once seemed out of reach has finally come to life,” said Tiara. “We’re building a cozy spot where great beer, tasty bites, and good conversation meet.”

What To Expect at the Allgood Brewing Taproom

The taproom will put its focus mainly on beverages, since there are five food carts (including Bring! Treats for Dogs, which caters to our four-legged furry friends). Here are more details on their plans:

  • Drinks: 5+ Allgood Beer taps, 2 dedicated lines for local gluten-free beers, local ciders, 2 to 3 draft cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic options.
  • Food: Aside from the food carts, there will be snacks like chips, pretzels, popcorn, and mini charcuterie packs. Kid-friendly bites include string cheese, applesauce, Uncrustables, and puffs. Outside food is always welcome at Allgood.
  • Activities: Board games, coloring pages for all, and a small kids area (with supervision).
  • Miscellaneous: They’ll have outdoor seating, events, and great conversation.

One of their first beers you’ll get to enjoy is Entre Compas, meaning “between friends” in
Spanish. This beer, a Mexican-style lager, is a tribute to Derrick’s past collaborator and friend Nick Herrera, who founded Portland’s first Mexican-American-owned brewery called Entre Compas. Herrera unfortunately died in 2022 of liver and kidney failure.

Their Neighbors, the Farmhouse Carts

This relatively small-in-numbers pod offers a nice space of its own—with heated covered seating and a fun elevated fire pit—and a variety of carts. At the writing of this article, from front to back are Shera Indian Food, Sunrise Co (breakfast sandwiches and coffee), Faith Catering (Southern food), and Taqueria Bravos Tacos. And there is the aforementioned Bring! Treats for Dogs.

Allgood Brewing will have their soft opening will take place on Wednesday, October 1. Their hours will be Monday through Tuesday, 2pm to 9pm; Wednesday through Thursday, 11am to 9pm; Friday through Saturday, 11am to 10pm; and Sunday, 11am to 8pm.

All the best to Tiara and Derrick as they prepare the Allgood Brewing taproom to open!
