This is truly one of the most wonderful times of the year—time when the annual Iliamna salmon—and cod—shares are available to order. They are provided by a family who has fished the waters of Alaska’s Bristol Bay for multiple generations, catching salmon and cod in a sustainable way. And their salmon is delicious. Iliamna Salmon Shares 2026: Here’s how to get them!

Iliamna Salmon Shares 2026: The Basics

Each year around this time, they send an email to previous share holders announcing the opening of the salmon share options for the year. They distribute in the PNW, Texas, NY and PA, Maryland, and Massachusetts. I remember back in 2010 there were only two distribution points: Portland, Oregon and New York City (Williamsburg, at the long gone Brooklyn Kitchen space, which was demolished and is now apartments). Their reach has gone above and beyond what I could have imagined back then.

You can order your shares now through May, with orders stopping June 1 or until sold out. They offer both summer (pick up August or September) and winter shares (pick up in November). You can pay for the whole thing at once, or pay 50% now and 50% at pickup.

Iliamna Salmon Shares 2026: The Basics

Here’s what you can expect this year: sockeye salmon, cod, smoked and canned salmon.

Summer Share

  • Sockeye salmon full share (21 lbs) of full fillets (1 to 2 lbs each): $335 ($20 increase from last year).
  • Sockeye salmon full share of portioned fillets (21 lbs)—full fillets cut in thirds or quarters: $355 ($19 increase from last year).
  • Alaskan cod share, larger portions (10 lbs): $170 ($20 increase from last year).
  • NEW: Alaskan cod cuts share, smaller portions (10 lbs): $120.
  • Case of canned salmon (24 3.5 oz cans): $99 ($8 increase from last year).
  • Case of canned salmon (24 5.6 oz cans): $138 ($10 increase from last year).

Winter Share

  • Sockeye salmon half-share (10 lbs) of portioned fillets: $170 ($20 increase from last year)
  • Alaskan cod share, larger pieces (10 lbs): $170 ($30 increase from last year)
  • NEW: Alaskan cod cuts share, smaller portions (10 lbs): $120
  • Case of canned salmon (24 3.5oz cans): $99 ($10 increase from last year)
  • Case of canned salmon (24 3.5oz cans): $138 ($10 increase from last year)
  • Hot smoked salmon share (3.5 lbs): $99 ($5 increase from last year)

Wild Alaskan Cod

This year there are two options for cod—larger and smaller pieces. Both versions of the cod shares are 10 pounds but the smaller pieces are 1.5 to 3 ounces; the larger pieces are 5 to 8 ounces.

Regarding the cod:

  • It’s wild fish.
  • Caught with long lines.
  • The state of the art fishing vessel is owned by Bristol Bay Native Corporation (full disclosure: some Iliamna folks are shareholders).
  • Cod is MSC certified sustainable.
  • Cod is a Seafood Watch “best choice” option due to the careful harvesting and biologically sound management practices.

Thoughts on the Practicality of This Salmon Share

This is one of my best purchases of the year. I almost always get the full salmon share of full fillets for our two-person household (plus the cats get to enjoy some of it). But, the portioned fillets—fillets that have been cut in thirds or quarters and individually vacuum-sealed—can make a difference for those who prefer smaller portions to cook.

Usually, I cook the entire full fillet and use any leftovers in a salad or for salmon cakes the next day. It’s also good in an egg scramble.

Regarding the canned salmon, it is excellent and makes for a very easy and quick protein source. I will open the can, rinse it off, and usually eat it on a salad. I recently bought a big bottle of that Kewpie sesame dressing at Costco and I imagine it would be really good with this canned salmon.
