Labor Day Weekend 2026: Eats, Drinks, and Happenings in Portland

Labor Day weekend 2026 is right around the corner, believe it or not.

This holiday celebrates and recognizes the achievements of working people and the American Labor Movement. The path to establishing Labor Day started in the 19th century, as a part of the effort to improve working conditions and challenge income inequality. Oregon was the first U.S. state to make Labor Day a public holiday (1887). Today, it is a Federal Holiday in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

This year, Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7, and with the adjoining Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6 it makes for a nice long weekend.

While the message is serious: those who labor are worthy, necessary, and significant, it is also considered the unofficial last gasp of summer. Here are some things going on this coming Labor Day Weekend.

Arab Mahrajan Festival

On Sunday, September 6 from 1pm to 7pm head to Director Park for the 15th Annual Arab Mahrajan festival. There will be delicious food and drink, a bazaar, music, dance, poetry, children’s activities, henna, and more. This is a free event.

Art In the Pearl

This is its 30th year, which is a real milestone. It’s an artist-run event, Portland’s largest outdoor art fair, and is free. It takes places in the North Park Blocks (here’s a map) 

“Chosen from across the U.S. and Canada, Art In The Pearl’s 140 juried artists display a wide array of works in a broad spectrum of styles. In this bustling urban setting, the arts are complemented by the beauty of the outdoors, the sounds of roving musicians, and demonstrations from experienced artists and craftspeople. The location of the festival, combined with first-rate talent, allows festival visitors an authentic connection to the world of artists.”

I don’t believe the festival itself has food vendors, but this is a great opportunity to check out some of the excellent places nearby: Lilia Comedor, Cadejo Coffee, Recess at Cambria Hotel, World Foods, Farmhouse Thai, Fuller’s Coffee Shop, República, and the North Park Blocks food cart pod. 

Saturday to Monday, September 5 to 7, 2026. The hours of operation are Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm; Monday,  10am to 4pm.

Bakeshop

They have some Labor Day specials, which include:

• Passion Fruit Pie. Comes in a graham cracker crust, made with cocoa-esque Teff flour and baked until dark and toasty then crushed and spiced with ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s topped with whipped cream. 
• Double Crust Strawberry and Cherry Pie. Made with sweet local strawberries and a compote of fresh and dried sour cherries that have been cooked with grated ginger and ginger juice to offset the sweet tart with a bit of heat. 
• Chocolate Pudding Pie. Their all butter, flaky crust is filled with rich homemade pudding and topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
• Basil Pistou & Ricotta Quiche. Their classic pie crust is filled with a rich, custardy egg base that’s dotted with ricotta cheese and generous dollops of housemade basil pistou (a nut-free pesto) for brightness.
• Ham and Cheese Quiche. Their classic pie crust is filled with a rich, custardy egg base with layers of  ham and Fontal cheese.
• Burnt Basque Cheesecake. A crustless cheesecake cooked at a high temperature, creating an addictive crumbly cheese crust, a dark caramelized top, and a sweet, creamy center.

Camp

Camp opened earlier this summer and they have Labor Day plans. Camp House Tea: Labor Day Edition (featuring Chelsea Starr) is Monday, September 7, doors open at noon, DJ at 4pm. Plus, they have glizzies—seven of ’em. Maybe one day they could make it eight with a Completo Dawg.

Egyptian Festival

On Saturday, September 5 from 10am to 7pm, you can stop by St. Antonious Coptic Orthodox Church for their Egyptian Festival. There will be authentic Egyptian food, henna, vendors, kids activities, cultural exhibits, and more. Its free to attend and all are welcome.

Hip Chicks Do Wine

This Labor Day weekend 2026, the Hip Chicks are doing a Wine & BBQ event on Friday to Sunday, September 4 to 6; Friday 2pm to 7pm; Saturday noon to 6pm; and Sunday noon to 5pm.

“Celebrate Labor Day Weekend with a deliciously fun and flavorful getaway at Hip Chicks do Wine! Join us for three days of exceptional wine, mouthwatering BBQ-inspired bites, and laid-back summer vibes. We’ll be pouring five of our favorite wines alongside our seasonal, refreshing Sangria—the perfect way to toast the final days of summer.”

The tasting flight features five handcrafted wines plus their seasonal Sangria, all for $25. You can bring your growler to fill up on their sangria, as well. And finally, they will have multi-bottle discounts.

Lupine

This pop-up is popping up at Phuket Cafe on Monday, September 7. They’ll be making egg roll lettuce wraps, sour pork pozole, and a goodbye summer tiramisu, among other things. And there will be nice drinks to drink. The menu is here, and it’s by counter service. 5pm until sold out.

Mio’s Delectables

This is one of the most popular vendors at the PSU Farmers Market, and understandably so. Her sweets are incredible. She’ll be offering some pies this weekend in honor of Labor Day, made with seasonal flavors. She also indicates they are meant to be shared. Available in limited quantities on Saturday, September 5 from 8:30am to 2pm.

People’s Co-op

On Friday, September 4 from 5:30pm to 8pm the People’s Food Co-op is hosting a Labor Day Weekend cookout. You can learn about their Living Wage Fund, hang out with the board, and connect with the Co-op community. Locally made eats and drinks (Hoda’s, Rawdacious, Ice Queen) will be available. This event is free and everyone is welcome (RSVP here).

Romanian Festival

On Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6 (Saturday 11am to 8pm, Sunday noon to 8pm) is the annual Romanian Festival at Saint Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church. Enjoy authentic Romanian cuisine, homemade pastries, Romanian beer and wine, kids
activities, live music and performances, face painting, traditional Romanian dancing,
and more.

Wonderlove

They’ve got music for Labor Day weekend 2026. “You know we love a 3 day weekend so we’re finding a reason to throw a party.” On Saturday they have a free show with Two Bit Brothers starting 3pm until 6pm; this is a family-friendly event. 

On Sunday, Reggaeton En La Calle arrives, starting at 5pm. “3 Stages • 3 Vibes. Stage 1: Factory • Stage 2: Calle • Stage 3: Temperature.” This is a ticketed event ($30 to $100 plus fees), purchase here.

There’s plenty of great food at the food carts on site, too.

Vya

Vya’s hosting a party during Labor Day weekend 2026—the All White Rooftop Day Party on Sunday, September 6 from 4pm to 10pm.
