Small Bites: Dinger’s Deli, Hecho de Mano, RBFM, and More

Dinger’s Deli is now at Wayfinder Beer. They have brought their vegan sandwiches there, and their menu will co-exist with the regular Wayfinder menu. “Dingers is famous for recreating classic, absurdly delicious, glorious NY-style meat sandwiches entirely from plants. Veggies for Breakfast With Willi Galloway. The Multnomah County Master Gardener Association presents Willi Galloway for their September Speaker Series. Willi is a local author and garden-to-table expert who will “share simple, delicious breakfast recipes and meal prep strategies that take the stress out of eating healthy, in the morning. She’ll demo whipped ricotta toast, savory steel cut oatmeal, and some mix-and-match recipes that are full of vegetables and super versatile!”

Roots Restaurant and Bar has closed. Their final day in Camas was Tuesday, September 1. Sangam Indian Cuisine has opened in the Vancouver area. This is the old Kobe Hibachi Grill & Sushi space, located on Highway 99 in Hazel Dell. Sangam’s first restaurant was in Washougal. “Come enjoy your favorite Indian dishes—fresh curries, biryani, naan, tandoori specials, vegetarian options, lunch buffet, takeout, and catering.” 6304 NE Hwy 99, Vancouver

And Raising Cane’s is coming to Gresham. People are really into this chain, what with their popular chicken fingers and beloved titular sauce. I remember seeing them in the building phase there on the corner when I was driving to see my accountant earlier this year. I think a lot of folks will be happy about their opening—Gresham High School is right nearby, too.

They open on Tuesday, September 22 at 9am–that’s when the grand opening celebration starts. Jen’s Pastries has expanded. They have soft launched their cafe space next door to the bakery and passed their first inspection. That means you can come inside, order pastries at the counter, and get a cup of self-serve coffee. They are feeling pretty good about it all, and encourage you to come by and “see the space develop as we continue to work on it.”

Spice Junxn has opened. I recently learned about this place on the PSU campus that opened in late July. They offer international groceries, Indian food, and full bar. Reminds me a bit of Beer Paradise Taproom— a bar and restaurant attached to a convenience mart. Hecho de Mano has opened in the old Array Bottle Shop space. Array closed back in February, and now Hecho de Mano has found its way there. They soft opened the last weekend of August.

“Hecho de mano” means “made by hand” in Spanish and that’s what they do to create their West Texas-style flour tortillas. They also have a fridge stocked with beans, rice, papas con chile, desebrada (Mexican shredded beef), aguas frescas, and more. 4270 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland

Rift Valley Market has a nice new seating area. This East Portland Ethiopian market and restaurant has updated their eat-in space. The Noshpit will take it on the road, someday. This sandwich spot closed down in North Portland this summer, but owner Jeff Jones is not done yet. He bought himself a big yellow bus, which he’ll convert into The Noshpit v2.0. “I’m turning this old bus into the next version of NoshPit. Smaller, mobile, and built around what I actually love doing. I’m taking my time with this one, which means building it right instead of building it fast.” Good luck, dude. In transit

Real estate … mystery? This guy says, “The clock is ticking to find new tenants for this bar and restaurant before we run out of money.” This guy says, “New venues coming to Kerns! One is a new, first-of-its-kind lounge experience for Portland. It’ll be dope! The other is an existing restaurant operator doing amazing volume in a very rough location compared to Kerns. I can’t wait to see what they do on 24th and Ankeny!!”

Euro Cafe has opened. This is from the folks behind Lux Cafe in East Portland. Looks like they opened in early August; first Yelp review is dated August 10. Their focus here is Turkish food. 11013 NE Burton Road, Vancouver

Fundraiser for Golden Triangle. On Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6, head to The Heist to support the folks behind the Golden Triangle food cart. One of the owners, Ta, experienced a health scare.

“The Heist will be donating a portion of their proceeds to Golden Triangle to help them while they are in a time of need. (Look for a sign on the cart to show that they’re participating!) The Heist will be matching all funds made.”

Far Cry has opened. They’ve softly opened for the past couple of weeks or so, and their grand opening is today. Far Cry is “a place to listen to quality music in a long format, be present, and decompress from the insanity that is the world now.” “Quality music” will lean toward jazz and experimental tunes. They ask that you do not talk over the music, or do any hollering; socialize “in a more intimate way.”
