It appears that after 22 years in business, Grant’s Philly Cheesesteaks has closed. They had two locations, one in East Portland (15350 NE Sandy Blvd) and one in Northwest Portland (1203 NW 23rd Avenue). Here is what we know so far about what’s up with this Portland cheesesteak destination.

Small Bites: Javi’s, YUI, 33 Cafe, Dear Santa, and More

Javi’s will open in Vancouver. Their Sandy Blvd location is so popular that they’ll be opening a second location at The Mill shopping center, which is also home to another familiar Portland business: Parkrose Hardware. No indication of the timing of their opening yet, aside from “soon.” Good news for The Couve. 7900 E Mill Plain Blvd, Vancouver

Reeva’s Extended Closure in Portland, Hope for Roberto’s Return

Over the past couple of days, a number of readers have shared the news with me about the unfortunate reality of Reeva’s extended closure. This popular and highly-regarded pizza truck in the Roseway neighborhood indicated back on Tuesday, November 4 that they were closing at the end of service on Sunday, November 9 to attend to “personal matters.”

This vague statement could have meant any variety of things but now we know what happened: Roberto Hernandez Guerrero, owner and operator of Reeva Cafe y Cocina a la Leña, is stuck in Mexico, having been denied reentry into the U.S.

Shop Halo Halo Has Closed and Is Ready for What’s Next, in Portland

Shop Halo Halo, a Filipino bakery, closed down their storefront in the Woodstock neighborhood this past August. Currently doing pop-ups and fundraisers (including their own), they are in search of a new location. I spoke with Shop Halo Halo’s owner, Geleen Abenoja, to learn more.

Nosh at The Noshpit in the Old Backyard Social Space in Portland

Back at the end of September I learned that a new bar/restaurant was planned for what was home to Backyard Social for many years. Called The Noshpit, they look to offer sandwiches, soup, hot dogs, drinks, and more. I spoke with the owner of The Noshpit, Jeff Jones, the other day about the new place, and here is what I learned.
