Data Analytics Chart

Welcome our roundup of top 5 posts for June 2026. Last month, the most read pieces were three roundups—soccer, a holiday, and strawberry shortcake—and two features—a deli and a bar. Quite a variety of topics!

Traffic compared to last month was a sad trombone state of affairs. My guess is that we were hit by the changes in Google’s search engine, as search traffic was down by 18% compared to May; a few other traffic-related things took a hit, too. It’s part of the deal but it’s not a great feeling—the best thing is to learn from the numbers and work harder in July.

As for the numbers, close to 44,000 unique visitors generated over 61,000 page views.

Thanks, as always to all of you who read, comment, share, and send us tips. We could not do this without you.

FIFA World Cup roundup, one of the top 5 posts June 2026

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is almost upon us! The friendlies have been happening since last weekend, but the 104 official competitive matches (here’s the schedule) start Thursday, June 11 and go until Sunday, July 19. That final match will take place at MetLife Stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ (home of the NY Giants and NY Jets).

4. Fourth of July 2026 in the Portland Metro Area

Fireworks!

Like I often say in anticipation of big holidays, “it’s that time again”—Fourth of July 2026, or Independence Day 2026 (take your pick), is in just a couple of weeks. Plus this year it’s the semiquincentennial/sestercentennial/quarter millennium of the nation’s founding with the Declaration of Independence.

3. Thunderbird Will Open on N Mississippi Ave in Portland

Details on the second Thunderbird Bar on N Mississippi, one of the top 5 posts June 2026

Thunderbird, a bar from the Lighting Bar Collective, will open in the former space of The Uncanny, which closed in May 2026. I first caught wind of all this through their liquor license application, then not long after that I saw the sign above as I was walking around the N Mississippi commercial strip.  Here is what we know.

2. Salami Mammi, an Italian Deli, Will Open in Beaverton

The logo for Salami Mammi.

I first became aware of Salami Mammi kind of by accident; but when I realized what it was and who was involved, I knew I had to reach out to them to learn more. This is a new Italian deli from the folks behind Don’s Favorite Foods and Burger Stevens: Kate Laurents and Don Salamone, plus their business partner Adam Galbraith. And it will take over the current Don’s space, with Don’s moving elsewhere in Beaverton (location TBD).

Strawberry shortcake, at the top of the top 5 posts June 2026

Strawberry Shortcake Week 2026—coming soon! It’s a little bit earlier this year, but that just means the strawberries will be on your plate before you know it. Here are all the details about the week, which is one of my top three favorite food weeks in Portland (Dumpling Week and Salad Week being the others).
