King Cakes in Portland: Where to Find Them in 2026

It’s time to start thinking about getting your king cakes in Portland! Today is the fifth day of Christmas, but on January 6 Christmas is over and Three Kings Day—aka Epiphany—arrives, setting off the Epiphanytide. This day recognizes the story of the Magi (aka Three Wise Men) who we are told visited Jesus and gave him gifts. It was a way to say, “we’re glad you’re here,” among other things.

Small Bites: Deadstock, Honorable Mention, Singacoustic, and More

Deadstock Coffee is closing it NW Portland shop at the end of the month. This was another big piece of news from last week that got to me late on Friday 12/19. Deadstock, which has been in Old Town-Chinatown since 2015, will have its last day of service on Wednesday, December 31. Their Beaverton location is doing well and experiencing growth, but as they say, “Sometimes, real good things come to an end.”

Bobadochi Will Open on NE Alberta in Portland

I was over on NE Alberta to catch some of December’s special ice cream flavors at Salt & Straw (Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache FTW), and on my way I noticed paper up and a sign affixed to the door a few storefronts to their west: Bobadochi. They offer boba drinks, mochi donuts, and Korean-style corn dogs (AKA K-dogs).
