A Bridgetown Bites tipster reached out to tell me they had come across a posted liquor license application for a restaurant called Fat Milo’s. They will open up in the old Morchella space, bringing comforting diner food— with ingredients sourced from local farmers and makers—to NE Fremont and 13th Avenue, one of my favorite corners of the city.

Earlier today I was able to attend a media preview of the Flock Food Hall, located on the ground floor of the Ritz-Carlton hotel at SW Alder and 9th Avenue. There are eight vendors there offering a variety of cuisines, from Korean fried chicken, to birrieria, to pastries. Plenty of seating, too. Many thanks to Genesis Burton of the Qué Chilero Group, who invited me in connection to her client Pan Roast.

A new Korean restaurant/bistro and bar called Moon Pocha is opening NE 28th Avenue’s “restaurant row” later this year. They will make their home in the old Bar Asha space (also formerly The Sudra). As you may remember, Bar Asha closed in late 2024. The new spot will offer Korean food and drink, six days a week.

I was happy to see the 2025 James Beard Awards semifinalists list released today. And not only did Portland represent well, but chefs from other cities in Oregon were recognized, too. I recently became aware of a new restaurant called Alma PDX (not to be confused with Alma Chocolates), which will move into the old Masala Lab space when it vacates at the end of January. It looks to be a Balkan and Turkish restaurant, a cuisine that is less common in Portland than a lot of other places.
I’ve updated this article since it was initially published, but I’m still here to share with you the fruits of my additional research on Alma.
