New food menu at Leikam Brewing. They’ve partnered with Nourishment PDX, which provides locally-sourced, flavorful food. A little backstory: “The two first crossed paths nearly a decade ago as vendors at the Hollywood Farmers Market and are excited to reconnect. Ramona White, founder of Nourishment PDX, was a beloved presence at the market for 19 years, serving tens of thousands of her famous breakfast burritos to customers of all ages and Leikam sold its first beers publicly at the market weekly.”

You can see their menu here, which includes mac & cheese, a mezze plate, lamb chorizo chili, deviled eggs, and more. The full menu is available 4pm to 8pm, with a modified menu after 8pm. 5812 East Burnside Street, Portland

Top Posts on Bridgetown Bites in 2021

I took a look at the posts that got the most traffic this year and found an unexpected mix of results. Many of the posts were written this year, but a couple of oldies made it in. Here are the top 10 posts from the year, with accompanying updates and thoughts.

10. Farewell Heim, Hello Bee’s Cakes and Cafe. Bee, AKA, Rebecca Powazek-Anderson, has been making custom cakes and throwing pop-ups in this space at the intersection of NE Sandy Blvd and Fremont Street. She has indicated that the cafe part “is set to open January.” We’ll bring you more details when they become available.

Enjoy Squid Game Eats in Portland

I’ll admit it—I loved Squid Game. Sure, it’s bloody and violent but so was the original Total Recall, which I also loved. One of my favorite aspects of Squid Game is that it introduced me to a whole bunch of great Korean actors, and now I’m looking forward to watching some of them in the upcoming series on Netflix, The Silent Sea. Anyway, back to Squid Game—it certainly made an impression on a worldwide audience and I was happy to see at least two “hat tips” to the movie here in Portland.

Goodbye Saima Thai & Sushi, Hello ChiMcking

Last Sunday I was doing a little research on Portland Thai restaurants and it became clear that Saima Thai & Sushi in the Hollywood District has closed. They opened originally in early 2018. Turns out a new restaurant is moving into that space: ChiMcking, a franchise that offers “Korean Style Chicken & Fresh Beer.” That’s right—an expansive menu of Korean fried chicken is coming to the Hollywood District.
