Back in June 2024, a Bridgetown Bites tipster sent me a note that they spotted a liquor license application posted at a building on SE 28th Avenue and Division for Schilling Cider House PDX. I looked into it, and over time and multiple emails I learned that Schilling is indeed moving to a new spot there on Division, with the aim to open this April.
I had a chance to speak with Colin Schilling about the new cider house, and here is what I learned.
Joe Brown’s Lounge, a Black-owned business that opened on NE MLK Blvd in early 2023, is moving further east. The owner, David Ferguson, will be opening in a space on NE Alberta and 26th Avenue, next door to DB Dessert Company.
Late last year, I heard that Speedboat Coffee was moving to a new location, so I stopped in on their opening day in December. They made me a really good cup of coffee and super tasty croissant breakfast sandwich—one of the best I’ve had lately. But what I didn’t know is that they make their own baklava! That definitely hooked me, so I wanted to learn more about them.
I reached out to them with interest and curiosity, and here is what I’ve learned about Speedboat Coffee, so I thought I’d share it with you.
Welcome to our (mostly) monthly roundup of top 5 posts on Bridgetown Bites. September’s top articles were an interesting mix of stories last month, and writing them involved my implementing both seasoned and new communications strategies. I’m grateful to those who shared information with me so readily.
September 2024 was the most successful month on Bridgetown Bites to date, from a traffic standpoint. Close to 22,000 unique visitors generated over 27,000 page views. As we reported in June, Argay favorite the Wooden Chicken Pub closed after over 40 years in business. But recent paperwork filed with the City of Portland gives indication that this popular watering hole could come back from the dead. In answer to that speculation, I heard confirmation on August 1 that this is indeed true—The Wooden Chicken is returning! Note: This article has major updates.
Not Jacqueline’s oyster specifically, but I love this photo of this boffo bivalve from a previous Shuck Portland.
Back in May, a Bridgetown Bites tipster emailed me with the news: “Jacqueline will be moving into the former La Moule/Bakers place at 25th and Clinton.” I wrote a little blurb at the time, and I’m happy to say that the tip has been further confirmed—first with a liquor license application from mid-August, and then with an article in The Oregonian this week (and the accompanying Instagram post).
