The Glory of Campana

Campana’s inaugural menu.

Last week I had the chance to have a meal at Campana, the new east coast Italian restaurant located in the front of Grand Army Tavern. I had eaten there during their Italian Night/Pasta Night pop up over the summer, and was really happy eating that food. The housemade pastas were tender with substance and the sauces were delicious. I was kinda blown away that my meal at Campana was even better! My dining companion, Jen, was also really happy with her meal. Continue reading “The Glory of Campana”

Main Season Returns to Hollywood Farmers Market in Portland

West entrance to the Hollywood Farmers Market

One of the great things (among many) about living in the Hollywood District is the proximity to the Hollywood Farmers Market. It’s definitely been one of the perks of living in this part of Portland. They host a lot of variety in vendors, have a friendly staff, and it’s an overall pleasant way to spend part of the morning. I took a few photos there on this very rainy morning and wanted to share them here.

Back After an Unplanned Break + Good Eats

Herring Under a Fur Coat at Kachka

The classic Herring Under a Fur Coat at Kachka, one of the delicious things I ate in the past couple of months.

Life took priority—estate work took a lot of my attention, but so did the emotional component of cancer recovery. I just didn’t have enough in me. But that has changed—I still have estate work and am still recovering from cancer, but my focus is better.

As a way of re-entry, I thought I’d recap some of the delicious things I ate in February and March.

The phenomenal carrot and avocado salad at Departure, one of my favorite vegetable-oriented dishes in Portland in 2018.

Happy New Year!

Back in May 2018, I posted about taking a break from the blog due to some health issues. Although it has taken longer than I expected to get back in the swing of things, I’m happy to say that my health is much improved and and as under control as possible. The time is right to get back to food writing, something I’ve missed.

So what happened? In April I was diagnosed with stage 2A breast cancer. Continue reading “The Return of Bridgetown Bites”

Welcome to Hollywood, Garden Monsters

The Hercules Salad at Garden Monsters looks pretty dang good.

While I was sick and not on my A-game, the news of the impending arrival of Garden Monsters was reported by Chad Walsh at the Portland Mercury. Full disclosure: I hadn’t heard of Garden Monsters before this post but I’m sure glad I do now. The menu is primarily salads (“mini” and “monster” sizes), with the option to turn any of them into a wrap, and a couple of “Monster Melts.” They will be renting that little space adjacent to Saima Thai & Sushi that used to be Pono Soul Farm Kitchen’s meat market.
