On Sunday, Chop Chop Food Pod, which we reported on earlier this spring, opened their doors (well, their gates) to the public in outer Southeast Portland. The space is open, clean, and a nice place to be. There are currently two food carts in operation there, with more to come.

Bread Fest, an annual festival that celebrates the world of bread from flour to loaf, is in its second year in Portland. Head there this Sunday, October 20 for a delicious carbolicious time.
Back in April, I learned that there was activity in the old Sessionable location (they closed in July 2023) on SE Division. That activity was from a new bar/lounge called 1919. I reached out to Steve Haubrich, one of the owners of 1919, to learn more. After a series of email exchanges over the past several months, I am happy to share with you some of what Steve has told me about this new project.
Back in August 2022, I reported on a food cart pod that was in development on the former site of the La Carreta Mexican Restaurant. Turns out, it’s happening! They have named it Brooklyn Caretta and the plan is to open the pod in the first quarter of 2025.

Update 6/23/26: Two Brothers is no longer for sale. The owner’s son emailed me to tell me he’s taking over the business. The article below reflects a point in time when the business was for sale.
A reader emailed me with the news that Portland’s excellent Balkan restaurant, Two Brothers Rakia Bar + Grill, is for sale. Color me surprised—I had no idea this was in the works until then. This could be a blow to the diversity—and deliciousness—of the Portland food scene. But the reason why they are selling is understandable.
