A Second Location for Saint Simon Coffee Co.

While driving to dinner tonight (we had an excellent meal at Pocket Pub), I spied out of my peripheral vision the words “Saint Simon Coffee Co.” on a storefront along NE 15th Avenue. I pulled over, walked back to the building and was pretty excited by what I saw—but what I didn’t know is whether it was a new location or a second location (the current location is on NE Broadway). My hope was for the latter.

Well, the good news is that this is a second location, confirmed on Saint Simon’s Instagram. Their plan is to have this cafe open by the end of April. And there will be a second element here, something called Drifter Handcrafted Cocktails & Wine. Drifter’s owner, Darren Brock, has applied for a Full On Premises liquor license for this second location (Jarrod Brock is Saint Simon’s owner).

This space used to be home to Foster & Dobbs, a gourmet food/wine/deli that closed in 2017. It’s a sweet location in Irvington—on a main thoroughfare with a bus line, and for those who drive there’s a little parking lot next to the building. Irvington is such a beautiful neighborhood with all those big homes and amazing tree canopy. I hope Saint Simon will do well there.

And since this is a second location, that means the original location is presumably staying put. It’s a small, cozy space and the baristas there have always made me a delicious cup of coffee. The second location will no doubt be bigger that the original and I hope they will have a beautiful bar from which to serve cocktails and other drinks. And since alcohol will be served, in Portland that means food, too, and I’ll be curious to see what they come up with for good eats (the pastries at the current shop are very good).

I look forward to stopping in later in April. Best of luck to the Saint Simon folks as they prepare to open this second location of what has become a very well-respected place for coffee in Portland.
