Rabbit Hole Market and Sweets Will Open in Montavilla

While walking from my car to Hungry Heart Bakery Saturday morning, I passed the old Hungry Heart space on SE 80th Ave that had this sign affixed to the window: “Rabbit Hole Market and Sweets.” I didn’t think much of it since it said “Est. 2010” and that was 12 years ago. but my interest had piqued anyhow. I sort of forgot about it as I entered Hungry Heart and thought about what I was going to order.

As I was waiting to receive my takeout I heard one of the staff members talking excitedly about their new venture, Rabbit Hole Market and Sweets (!!). I could not resist listening in and was invited into the conversation. What I learned is:

  • Indeed, it will be located in the old Hungry Heart space on SE 80th Ave.
  • They will have delicious locally-made products on the shelves, like a Hatch chile salsa the staff member raved about.
  • Look for plants with cute little pots for sale.
  • They’ll also have baked goods like cupcakes, macarons, and tres leches cake.
  • Soft serve ice cream!
  • I’d like to say there will be coffee, too, but that is unclear.

Cute plants!

Upon further research, that little rabbit in the Rabbit Hole sign looks a lot like the rabbit in another project from the folks at Hungry Heart: White Rabbit. That was conceptualized in … 2010. Now it makes sense.

Additionally, White Rabbit Cafe, which was supposed to open at 7940 SE Stark Street, is currently Hungry Heart Bakery. From what I can tell, Rabbit Hole’s location was going to be called Heartbreaker Market for a while. There’s a lot going on with all of this.

Rabbit Hole Market and Sweets will be open Thursdays through Sundays and they are having a soft opening this Saturday, April 16.

Best of luck to the Rabbit Hole/Hungry Heart folks as they get ready to open their doors to the neighborhood!
