Honey Latte Cafe Opening Second Location in The Roll Up

While I was over at Colours PDX, an art gallery participating in the Portland Winter Light Festival, I learned that Honey Latte Cafe is opening a new location in the shared space also hosting the gallery, The Roll Up. One of the things that will set them apart from many others is that they want to offer coffee later into the evening—something that is not as common in Portland (we have a thriving daytime cafe scene).

Honey Latte Cafe, a “community oriented, women-led, plant-based, planet friendly” cafe, currently operates in the Buckman neighborhood at 1033 SE Main Street; they also produce events. They will continue there, so this space on NE MLK is a second location. And their initial opening is Saturday, February 10—in the evening. It coincides with the closing reception of Colours PDX’s Black Velvet art show, the hours of which are 5pm to 10pm.

It sounds like they will be in a kind of “pop-up” or intermittent mode to start. Honey Latte owner Angelyna said on Instagram, in answer to a question about regular hours, “We’re starting with events for now but hoping to set up regular hours very soon!”

The Roll Up is a group space, and is currently home to:

While at Colours PDX, I had various conversations with the titular individual of the gallery, Caleb Jay Colours. He lamented the dearth of late night coffee options in Portland, so he is happy to see such a thing offered at The Roll Up. He pointed out a coffee window and some space inside to hang with your drink. I think it’s going to be really nice.

I definitely encourage you to stop by Saturday night to check out the art—all prepared on black velvet. This is a group show and the art is for sale (a number of pieces had already been purchased when I was there Monday evening). Some of the pieces respond to UV light; some glow in the dark; overall the art is fun and cool. I love this kind of stuff! It speaks to my time and memories from long ago at CalArts.
