Strawberry Shortcake Week 2026—coming soon! It’s a little bit earlier this year, but that just means the strawberries will be on your plate before you know it. Here are all the details about the week, which is one of my top three favorite food weeks in Portland (Dumpling Week and Salad Week being the others).

If you want to go straight to the list of participants, you can do that right here.

Strawberry Shortcake Week 2026: What Came Before

The inaugural Strawberry Shortcake Week was in 2023 as a project associated with the James Beard Public Market. The JBPM Foundation launched it, “to raise awareness of the strawberry growers in Oregon and the incredible food ecosystem in the region”; it benefitted the Foundation’s Oregon Taste program.

At Bridgetown Bites, we became aware of Strawberry Shortcake Week in 2024, and also were happy to bring attention to it in 2025. Every year it has been a week celebrating delicious seasonal strawberries used in creative ways. Unless you dislike strawberries (or are allergic to them), it is guaranteed to be a great week.

Strawberry Shortcake Week 2026: How it Works

From Monday, June 1 to Sunday, June 7, you have your choice of 45 restaurants in Portland (and other cities in Oregon), each of which will present their vision of strawberry shortcake. This year has the largest number of participants since 2023. Oregon has some of the best strawberries around, so you are in for a treat.

Has Anything Changed for Strawberry Shortcake Week 2026?

Not much, apart from the timing, which may have to do with the strawberries ripening earlier this year due to a milder winter, and the increase in participants. This event again pays homage to James Beard—Oregon native, and namesake of the James Beard Public Market. His strawberry shortcake recipe is a classic, and one generations of cooks and pastry chefs have riffed on.

June is a big month for strawberries in Oregon, so it is apt that Strawberry Shortcake week is in June, a chance to for restaurants to showcase local strawberries at their peak.

“Oregon strawberry season is fleeting and extraordinary, and there’s no better way to honor it than with the dish James Beard himself loved most,” said James Beard Public Market Executive Director Jessica Elkan. “We’re inviting the whole state to slow down, walk into a local restaurant, and taste what this region does better than anywhere else in the world.”

There are restaurants both in Portland and further afield. Details of what they are offering are not available at this time, but if we can provide updates, we will. Over half of the participants are new this year.
