Welcome our roundup of top 5 posts for May 2026. It was a nice variety last month: one of our Small Bites columns, a new chocolate shop, a technical piece on a house-to-business conversion, an event, and new of an incoming food cart pod.
As for traffic this past month, we did well. Over 54,000 unique visitors generated over 75,000 page views. This is an increase of 8% and 10%, respectively.
As always, thanks for reading, commenting, sharing, and for your excellent tips!

5. Small Bites: Greek Street, Pizza Baron, Strawberries, and More

Greek Street has opened. This is in the space adjacent to Tréla that was going to be more bakery-focused (Yiayia’s), but they chose a different path. You can see their menu here. I’ll be by soon for some tyrokefteri, a chicken gyro (with fries!), and a lemon lime Vikos soda. 6010 NE Glisan Street, Portland
4. Lavoratti 1938 Opens Their First US Chocolate Shop in Portland

In downtown Portland, not far from Pioneer Courthouse Square, is the home of the very first Lavoratti 1938 chocolate shop in the United States. They chose Portland over places like New York City and San Francisco, which I think is a big deal. I stopped by the other day to see the shop, try some chocolate samples, and learn more about this cherished Italian chocolate company.
3. A Commercial Conversion in NE Portland: House To Cafe

This spring I came across a project that I find, for whatever reason, fascinating: A commercial conversion in NE Portland, with the goal of transforming a house into a cafe—and possibly a bookstore. It’s a triplex that was built in 1905 and sits on the corner of NE Glisan and 30th Avenue in the Kerns neighborhood.
2. Strawberry Shortcake Week 2026 Is Almost Here in Portland

Strawberry Shortcake Week 2026—coming soon! It’s a little bit earlier this year, but that just means the strawberries will be on your plate before you know it. Here are all the details about the week, which is one of my top three favorite food weeks in Portland (Dumpling Week and Salad Week being the others).
1. The Callback (FKA Hollywood Bar & Carts) To Open This Summer in Portland

Update: The new name for the Hollywood Bar & Carts is The Callback, and we have updated this article to reflect that.]
Across the street from the Hollywood Trader Joe’s, a new project called The Callback has been in process since last year. It’s a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, food carts, a bar, and more. And they are looking to open their doors this summer.
This week we are running a subscription drive!
