Portland is one of the top cities in the U.S. for vegan eating, with restaurants, cafes, and bakeries having won a number of awards for the high quality plant-based food made in this town. For Salad Week this year, we wanted to feature specifically where to get vegan salads in Portland, because they deserve a proverbial seat at the table.

How This Vegan Salads in Portland Roundup Came To Be
Last year during Salad Week, a reader commented, “It’s too bad that the majority of these salads have cheese! For anyone with a dairy allergy, you’d think Portland of all places would have more options.” I immediately translated that into the realization that so many of the salads we have featured during Salad Week have some kind of animal product in them—e.g, dairy, meat, eggs, honey. I asked myself, “Why have we not featured many vegan salads?” It blew my mind: the blind spot of the omnivore.
That had to change, hence this list of vegan salads in Portland and where to find them. And I want to start with the vegan Caesar salad.
Vegan Salads in Portland: The Caesar

The Caesar salad is one of the most widely available vegan salads in Portland. Interestingly, many of these Caesar salads involve kale; not a surprise in Portland.
Black Water Bar
For many years, they operated out of a building at the northwest corner of NE Broadway and NE 9th Avenue (Billy Ray’s Dive Bar is moving into their old space), but since last year they are situated in a nice big spot on NE Sandy Blvd where Laurelwood Pub used to be. Black Water produces all-ages live music shows, sells records, and has a 100% vegan menu at the bar.
They offer Caesar and Chicken Caesar salads. They start out with romaine and croutons tossed in a cashew Caesar dressing. To make it a Chicken Caesar, add their tofu “chicken” cutlets. Also, you can substitute kale for $3.
5115 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland. Black Water Bar website
East Glisan Pizza Lounge
This pizzeria on the north end of the Montavilla neighborhood on NE Glisan creates some of the tastiest Detroit-style pizza in town—and they will be happy to make you a vegan version, too. One the salad side of the menu is the Kale Caesar Salad with a vegan option. It contains kale, romaine, Parmesan, croutons, and pepitas with their house Caesar dressing. Two sizes: a smaller one for a single person and a big one for a group.
8001 NE Glisan Street, Portland. East Glisan Pizza Lounge website
Garden Monsters
Garden Monsters is probably the most well-known salad food truck in the Portland metro area, operating these days in Southeast Portland and in Camas. They can make any of their salads vegan with vegan chicken or organic tofu, too.
The Caesar the Great includes romaine, vegan Parmesan, croutons, lemon (by request) with creamy vegan Caesar dressing and your choice of “hot-off-the-grill” plant-based protein. The omnivore version of this is delicious and I expect the vegan version is just as good. You can get half and whole salads here.
5029 SE Division Street, Portland and 5900 NW Friberg-Strunk Street, Camas. Garden Monsters website
Harlow
This vegan-forward plant-based cafe and juice bar offers “healthy food made with love.” It’s crunchy in the best way and I always feel satisfied after I eat there. They offer a Kale Caesar Salad made with chopped kale, roasted winter squash, watermelon radish, capers, GF croutons, and almond parmesan with a tahini Caesar dressing.
3715 SE Division Street and 505 NW 23rd Avenue, Portland. Harlow website (SE Division, NW 23rd)
JUNE
This 100% vegan restaurant in Beaverton was conceived in 2023 by Sanjay Chandrasekaran of the Sudra, along with folks from the Lightning Bar Collective. And they have a Caesar Kale Salad on the menu. It’s made with kale, romaine, and crispy chickpeas, then tossed in a vegan Caesar dressing and topped with nutritional yeast. Add tempeh for $4.
4589 SW Watson Avenue #110, Beaverton. JUNE website
Laughing Planet
This local chain makes a number of salads, inducing their Kale Caesar Salad with a vegan Caesar dressing. It’s made with kale, curry-roasted pumpkin seeds, nutritional yeast, with a lemon served on the side, with the aforementioned vegan Caesar dressing. Small and large sizes are available.
Multiple Locations. Laughing Planet website
Next Level Veggie Grill
Next Level Veggie Grill started as a Next Level Burger, and transitioned in October 2025. From our Small Bites column from that time: “Basically, last year Next Level Burger acquired Veggie Grill, a fast-casual vegan competitor of theirs, and had a business baby. Now there’s burgers and bowls, and much more. It kind of reminds me of Laughing Planet.”
They have a Caesar Crunch Salad made with organic romaine and kale tossed with house-made Caesar dressing, topped with mushroom crisps, house-made croutons, capers, almond Parmesan, and hemp hearts. There are small and large servings. Add crispy chik’n, crispy organic tofu, or grilled tempeh for an additional $3.95.
4121 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland. Next Level Veggie Grill website
Rudy’s Pizza
Founded by Rudy Medina, Rudy’s Pizza’s goal is to “create the most amazing Portland inspired pizza.” They want to accommodate as many people as they can, so they offer vegan options, as well as gluten-free ones. Their Vegan Caesar includes romaine topped with Roma tomatoes, vegan croutons, whole black olives, and Follow Your Heart (FYH) shredded Parmesan cheese, with FYH Caesar dressing. They have small and large sizes.
2443 SE Powell Blvd, Portland. Rudy’s Pizza website
Thunderbird
This popular bar in Southeast Portland has a sizable vegan menu (with meaty options there but in the minority). They recently opened a second location on N Mississippi (AKA TBird) and are offering more or less the same menu. Which means their Caesar salad is available in both places.
Their Vegan Kale Caesar is made with hearts of romaine, kale, croutons, and vegan Parmesan, with a black garlic caesar dressing. Add vegan fried chicken strips or tofu dusted with nutritional yeast for $3.
5339 SE Foster Road and 3560 N Mississippi Avenue, Portland. Thunderbird website
Secret Pizza Society
This vegan pizzeria on the north side of the Montavilla neighborhood (Fun Fact: They also acquired Papa G’s when it was ready to give up the ghost—that space later became Fantino) offers a selection of Saladz, including the SPS Caesar, which they claim is “the best vegan Caesar in town atmo.” It comes with romaine, bacon, tomatoes, croutons, and almond parmesan, with a Caesar dressing.
7201 NE Glisan Street, Portland. Secret Pizza Society website
Vegan Salads in Portland: The Taco Salad

The taco salad was another one I saw more than once, as far as vegan salads in Portland go. I love a good taco salad and it’s always interesting to see various vegan replacements used for the taco meat. Here we have walnut taco meat, tofu, and brown rice options.
Crisp Salads
Founded in 2015 by Emma Dye, this local chain is all about the salad, hence the name. They “source from local partners and farmers whenever possible.” This salad is not called a “taco salad” per se, but it’s close enough.
San Pancho: Spinach, romaine, roasted corn, black beans, roasted pumpkin seeds, avocado, pico de gallo, and crispy tortilla strips, with a chipotle cream dressing
3901 N Williams Avenue and 2045 SE Division Street, Portland. Crisp Salads website

Tiny Moreso
I love this little spot on NE 42nd Avenue just north of NE Prescott. They make really tasty, nourishing food, plus their Rawdacious vegan cheesecakes are some of my favorite vegan desserts ever. They have a really nice taco salad with something a little different: vegan queso. Def add the avocado.
Taco Salad: Romaine, Juanita’s/Juantonio’s chips, brown rice, roasted corn, olives, tomatoes, almond queso dressing. Add avocado for $1.50, tempeh for $2.
4520 NE 42nd Avenue, Portland. Tiny Moreso website
Vegan Salads in Portland: Burmese, Japanese, Sri Lankan, Thai

The following salads incorporate traditional foods and flavors from their respective countries.
Burma Joy
Salads in Myanmar go by the name “athoke” (or “thoke”). Most are vegan at Burma Joy, which is one of the Top Burmese restaurants. Those that aren’t vegan can be made vegan by omitting fish sauce. The tea leaf salad might be the most famous Burmese salad outside of Myanmar.
Tea Leaf Salad: Organic fermented young tea leaves, tomato, cabbage, roasted peanuts, sunflower and sesame seeds, dried chickpea, and fried garlic. Spicy version available, too.
Yangon Mango Salad: Shaved fresh mangoes, onions, cilantro, ground chickpea, and fish sauce (ask for it without fish sauce to make it vegan).
Ginger Salad: Seasoned ginger with tomatoes, cabbage, peanuts, sunflower and sesame seeds, and topped with fried garlic.
1305 NW 23rd Avenue, Portland. Burma Joy website
Kati
This Thai restaurant is completely vegetarian and vegan. Founder Sarah Jansala’s dad had been vegan for many years at the time she opened this restaurant, so she is sympathetic to eating this way. The menu is overwhelmingly—but not completely—vegan, and to convert anything that isn’t, just ask them. Usually it means just omitting the egg.
Their salads are apart from the leafy-greens-based ones we enjoy in the west; I love the variety.
Larb: Ground tofu, mushroom tossed in chili paste, lime juice, red onion, green onion, cilantro, roasted rice powder and served with lettuce.
Cold Crunch Peanut Salad: Peanut dressing with crispy tofu, and fresh and raw veggies; lettuce, red and green bell pepper, yellow onion, carrot, tomato, green bean.
Som Tum / Papaya Salad: Crushed raw papaya tossed in lime, shredded carrot, green bean, tomato and peanuts.
Don’t miss the Nam Khao Tod, either, which is served with lettuce: Crispy rice with fresh herbs, red & green onions, cilantro, carrot, peanuts, lime.
2932 SE Division Street, Portland. Kati website
Mirisata
This Sri Lankan restaurant is fully plant-based, as well as worker-owned. They have three salads: a fruit salad and two sambols. My understanding is that sambol is more like a coconut relish, but if you want to consider it a salad, there is nothing stopping you.
Pol Sambol: Grated coconut salad with onions, chilies, and lime juice.
Kochchi Sambol: Spicy coconut salad with birdseye chilies, lime juice, black pepper, curry leaves.
Tropical Fruits Salad: Tropical fruit dressed with kithul treacle and lime juice.
2420 SE Belmont Street, Portland. Mirisata website
Obon Shokudo
The most substantial salad at this vegan Japanese restaurant is the Udon Salad. It includes freshly made and cooked udon that is chilled, then coated with sesame dressing and buried in a seasonal salad mix. It is served with fried tofu and some bites of kakiage, a type of tempura. Then there’s more dressing, sesame seeds & shichimi (a seven-item spice mix) to finish. You can add more fried tofu, too.
720 SE Grand Avenue, Portland. Obon Shokudo website
Pasar
In the DLL section of the menu (DLL = “whatever” in Indonesian; they are more substantial than snacks) at this incredible Indonesian restaurant lies Asinan Betawi. It’s made with shredded carrot, cabbage, lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumber, tofu, spicy tamarind vinegar peanut sauce with toasted peanuts & krupuk bawang (garlic crackers).
3023 NE Alberta Street, Portland. Pasar website
Rangoon Bistro
Another Burmese restaurant in Portland, they semi-recently moved to a new location in Southeast Portland. These two salads have the option of being served vegan, so consider Rangoon Bistro to be on the vegan-friendly side of things (there is plenty of meat served here).
Lahpet Salad: Minto Island green tea leaves, peanuts, fried fava beans and chana dal, tomato, garlic oil, fish sauce, shredded cabbage.
Ghin sala: Pickled ginger, coconut flakes, chickpea flour, peanuts, fried fava beans and chana dal, tomato, garlic oil, dried shrimp, fish sauce, shredded cabbage.
3747 N Mississippi Avenue and 2131 SE 11th Avenue, Portland. Rangoon Bistro website
Top Burmese
Along with the Tea Leaf and Ginger Salad at Burma Joy, Top Burmese offers two other salads, one again with tea leaves, though not as young; and the other is a refreshing mix of colorful vegetables with the feature of mixing it up yourself.
“Shoo Share” Tea Leaf Salad: Organic fermented tea leaves, fresh tomatoes, cabbage, roasted peanuts, sunflower, sesame seeds and chickpea topped with fried garlic.
Hand Mix Rainbow Salad: Purple cabbage, cucumbers, red rice, noodles, potatoes, chickpea tofu (AKA shan tofu), bell peppers, carrots, fried garlic, and cilantro with house dressing. Gloves provided to unleash the flavors with hand mixing.
413 NW 21st Avenue, Portland and 12655 SW 1st St, Beaverton. Top Burmese website
Vegan Salads in Portland: Asian-Inspired

These salads are not traditional salads from East, Southeast, or South Asia, but are influenced by the region’s flavors and ingredients, with an additional western hue.
Harlow

3715 SE Division Street and 505 NW 23rd Avenue, Portland. Harlow website (SE Division, NW 23rd)
Norah
Norah considers themselves to be Thai-influenced, and their food is stellar. Even though it’s not really a salad, I gotta do a shoutout to their Charred Cabbage dish at the Alberta location, which is simply wonderful, made with cabbage topped with a creamy cauliflower sauce, green herbs, and lemon. They have a couple of salads worth including here.
Spring Salad: Spring mix, snap peas, apple, tempeh, seaweed salad, rice paper crisp, tomato, and sunflower seed, with a sesame ginger dressing.
Eggplant Salad: Chinese eggplant, tamarind chili jam, coconut lime dressing, onion, and tomato.
3801 SE Belmont Street and 1451 NE Alberta Street, Portland. Norah website (NE Alberta, SE Belmont)

Vegan Salads in Portland: Small and Side Salads

Sometimes you just want a little salad, or something on the side that’s not fries or tots (says someone who loves fries and tots).
Bastion
These are salads from their deli, which you can buy by the half or whole pint to take away; or, eat them there over a bed of greens for and additional two bucks.
Quinoa Harvest Salad: Tri-colored quinoa tossed with lemon poppyseed vinaigrette, then strawberries, fresh mint, arugula, parsley, and toasted pumpkin seeds.
Dukkah Spiced Kale and Fennel Salad: Massaged kale and shaved fennel tossed with fresh grapefruit, and topped with housemade dukkah spice blend.
6116 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland. Bastion website
Ben and Esther’s
Known as a bagel shop originally (and named after owner Justin King’s grandparents), they expanded into a vegan Jewish deli later on, introducing the very impressive carrot lox to the Portland vegan eating scene. Like any good deli, they offer deli salads: egg salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, and pasta salad. All are $9.99/pound except (or is that “eggcept”?) the egg salad, which is $11.99 a pound.
1800 NE Alberta Street, Portland. Ben and Esther’s website
Black Water Bar
They offer a handful of smaller salads:
House Salad: Leafy greens topped with seasonal vegetables and sunflower seeds, served with a house vinaigrette. Add chix for $2.
Potato Salad: Housemade, traditional picnic style.
Broccoli Bacon Salad: Broccoli, red onions, and bacon soy curls in a creamy summer dressing.
Kale Salad: Kale, pickled red onions, and sunflower seeds in a tahini dressing.
5115 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland. Black Water Bar website
Cibo
Their vegan offering is a Tuscan Farro Salad: Organic farro tossed with cucumbers, peppers, red onions, Arbequina olive oil, and assorted herbs and spices. Often when it comes to grain salads, at best you’ll find a Tabouli—delicious in its own right. I like finding grain salads on menus in Portland, and farro is really an epic grain.
3539 SE Division Street, Portland. Cibo website
Dirty Lettuce
For a restaurant named after salad greens, I was initially surprised to see that they don’t have any lettuce-based salads on the menu. But they do have some coleslaw: Shredded green and purple cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, and green onions, topped with their from-scratch sweet seasoned creamy coleslaw dressing.
4727 NE Fremont Street, Portland. Dirty Lettuce website
Doyaji
This cart at CORE was what came before BBANG!, which serves the same (or at least similar) salad. It’s a simple cucumber salad with a gochujang sesame vinaigrette. Yum.
3612 SE 82nd Avenue, Portland. Doyaji website

They serve a few vegan things and one of those is their Field Greens Salad with some interesting flavors: Along with the the greens, there’s pickled shallot, toasted coconut, and crisp apple, tossed in a tamarind dressing.

Their always-on-the-menu Fresh Love Salad is vegan and their dressings are, too. The salad is made with organic green lettuce, cucumber, microgreens, Roma tomatoes, and seasonal vegetables. Dressing options are a house vinaigrette, Green Goddess, or ranch (all indicated as vegan on their website).
