Beer Paradise Taphouse Has Opened in Vancouver [Photos]

Earlier this month I became aware of something called Beer Paradise Taphouse in Vancouver’s Ogden neighborhood. There you can have a pint of beer, a plate of Indian food, and a place to charge your EV, all in one place. It’s attached to V Market on the southwest corner of NE Burton Road and NE 86th Avenue. I stopped by last weekend to check it out.

V Market is considered to be a high-end, or “upmarket” convenience store, located in a building that opened this past February. As far as the high-end part, they do offer a variety of international drinks, snacks, and ramen; protein snacks; hot coffee, wine, and beer. I also noticed they sell the very popular Asian ice cream novelties shaped like fruits (I wish I’d grabbed one), as well as Ruby Jewel ice cream sandwiches. They have Dippin’ Dots, too.

I stopped by and it’s a nice, clean, modern convenience store; I’ve experienced the range of sketch to sweet stores over the years. Here are a few fun things I saw—those pickle balls are tangy, spicy, and crunchy.

Beer Paradise Taphouse

Beer Paradise Taphouse officially opened on Thursday, July 16. inside there is bar seating and lots of four-tops—we counted 56 chairs and 15 bar seats. There is plenty of natural light coming in through big windows. Parking is a bit challenging, as they have about a dozen parking spots in the lot; some are dedicated to EVs and some to compact cars.

Taps

Regarding the taps, there are 16 total featuring a half dozen styles of beer and cider: lagers and pilsners, a nitro stout, hard ciders, hazy IPAs, and west coast/northwest IPAs. Examples of each category include pFriem’s German Pilsner, Guinness, Schilling Cider‘s Moon Berries, Loowit Brewing Company’s Turbulent Juice, and Fort George’s Vortex IPA. You can also get any beer or cider by the pitcher and fill up your growler there, too. And, you can get a flight for $7.50 (4 pours).

The Food at Beer Paradise Taphouse

The eats side of the operation is a mix of Indian and western/American food, which is a nice combo. We ordered at the counter next to the bar; I’ve heard there is table service, too, but I did not experience that.

The Indian Menu

Indian food items include samosas, plain or as a chaat; various naan—garlic, plain, cheese, all baked in a tandoor oven; vegetarian curry like Daal Makhani, pakoras, and Saag Paneer; meat curries like Chicken Tikka and mutton curry; tandoori specials like tandoori chicken; and desserts like gulab jamun, as well as mango lassi (oddly enough, listed as a dessert).

Tandoori

In the tandoori section they have soft tacos: vegetarian Tandoori Paneer Tikka Tacos (filled with paneer, veggies, tikka sauce, and mint chutney) as well as Tandoori Tikka Chicken Tacos (filled with tandoori chicken, tikka sauce, and mint chutney). Two come to an order and they make the nann and sauces in-house, according to their chef, Sam, who I met.

This section also includes some loaded naan (paneer; chicken) and naan wraps (again, paneer; chicken). Staff behind the bar said the naan wraps are awesome.

American Pub Food

Lots of familiar items are on the American side: loaded nachos, petzel sticks, fish & chips, pepperoni pizza (the pizza oven was down when we were there), burgers, wings (bone-in or boneless), fries and onion rings, coleslaw, and a few desserts—tiramisu, chocolate lava cake, and red velvet cake.

I’m going to point out that this side of familiar pub food is at its core the beauty of America: foods from Mexico, Germany, England, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Canada are now considered part of the American food culture. And I love it.

They are open all days except Monday. Hours are 11am to 9pm most days except Friday and Saturday when they are open until 11pm.
