For years, now, I’ve hoped for something to open in this beautiful building on the southeast corner of NE Sandy Blvd at 28th Avenue, and now my hopes have been answered. Dear Sandy, which will offer “coffee, cocktails, and community,” will open there, hopefully before the end of 2022. (Can you believe we are almost to autumn?)

Pizza Begets Pizza: New Pizzeria Vincenzo’s Pizza Opening in Old Hogan’s Goat Space

A sausage and peppers pizza from Hogan’s Goat in Rose City Park.

I recently learned that Hogan’s Goat, the pizzeria with one of the most memorable names around, has closed their doors. Final day of service was Friday, July 29. A new pizzeria is opening, though—Vincenzo’s Pizza (and thanks to a Bridgetown Bites reader for the tip).

Goodbye Giant Gyros, Hello Fortune BBQ Noodle House

Perhaps we’ll see some great noodle soups at Fortune BBQ Noodle House. This is pork noodles from long lost Biang! in Flushing, Queens, where I would enjoy delicious noodles and dumplings. Photo credit: Bradley Hawks

While perusing the list of new businesses on the city’s website, I noticed a new restaurant, Fortune BBQ Noodle House. I saw the news that Handsome Pizza and Seastar Bakery are closing and my first reaction was, “no way, this can’t be true.” But it is, and now it’s time to accept it. I enjoyed my times there, eating their pizza, and attending a very interesting and memorable tomato tasting event back in 2018. They will be missed, and the comments on their Instagram post are proof as to how beloved they are in this city for their outstanding pizza and pastry work.

Top 5 Posts on Bridgetown Bites, July 2022

Data Analytics Chart

July was a month spent more or less in bizarro world for me because of stupid COVID, so real talk: I did not feel connected to the blog during that month as much as I usually am. So seeing the top posts for July 2022 feels a little like “it’s news to me.” But, nonetheless, it’s still fun to see what readers liked in particular—restaurant news, of course. It’s an interesting group of places. BTW, Bar Cala, Old Pal, and Sugar Hill are now open.

Thanks, as always, for reading.

Yesterday I published a speculative post about the old Rocky Butte Pub space on NE Sandy near 86th Ave. Fortunately, a reader tipped me off to what is actually going in there: the new place will be called the My-O-My ,”Your Favorite Bar East of 82nd.” The folks from the White Owl Social Club are behind it.
