Portland’s Atomic Pizza (Hollywood) To Close September 23

It’s been a rough day in Northeast Portland food news—this morning I heard that Pollo Norte has closed their original location (5427 NE 42nd Avenue) and around noon I heard that the Hollywood location of Atomic Pizza will close on October 28. This little pizzeria was the first place I ate at after moving to Portland, so I have a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in the place. Update 9/22/17: They are closing Saturday, September 23 (see comment below this post).

First Tastes: Sweets and Meats in Portland

I’m back with one of my favorite things on Bridgetown Bites—First Tastes, where I roundup recent initial tastes at new-to-me places in Portland.

Moroccan Lamb Meatballs | Suzette Creperie. Originally we planned on chowing down on tacos from Tight Tacos, but the truck was closed because of the hot weather. So, we wandered down SE Belmont in search of something tasty, and found ourselves at Suzette Creperie. I couldn’t resist ordering these little lamb meatballs, served with a “spicy tomato sauce” (chunky, yes; spicy, no) and topped with a sunny-side up fried egg. It was served with a small piece of toasted baguette, too.

Black Owned Restaurants Week Starts August 21 in Portland

I know there’s a lot of difficult stuff going on in the world right now, so I’m going to tell you about something that I hope will inspire you and put a smile on your face. From Monday, August 21 to Sunday, August 27 is Black Owned Restaurants Week here in Portland. The point of this restaurant week is pretty straightforward—support and eat at black-owned businesses. And the restaurant week’s organizers have put together some excellent tools to help you decide where to find some seriously good eats in town.

Recap: Hello! My Name Is Tasty Cookbook Release Party in Portland

On Tuesday evening, I attended the Hello! My Name Is Tasty cookbook release/launch party, which took place at the Plaza Del Toro event space in SE Portland. This space is, of course, run by John Gorham, the chef/owner of the mini Portland food empire that includes Toro BravoTasty n SonsTasty n AlderMediterranean Exploration Company (MEC), and Shalom Y’all.

He’s also one of the authors of Hello! My Name Is Tasty, the other author being Liz Crain.

Portland Food World Drama: Killer Burger, Rock and Roll Chili Pit, and Patsy’s
