Scenes From Fremont Fest 2021

I spent some time at the Fremont Fest earlier today, on a comfortable Portland summer day—cloudy and mild and without rain, the kind of weather that’s easy to spend time in. There was a generous showing of frozen treats: shave ice, gelato, kulfi, and soft serve options, which makes me think that the weather was very hot when vendor registration happened.

Other than that, the food scene included the Hi-Top Tavern barbecue station (meat and vegan bratwursts), Bishop & Son’s baked goods, Raw Oregon Honey, and Pizzicato also had a booth. I was chuffed to see Mamancy Tea there, too. To be honest, I wish there had been more food vendors offering not-dessert, but the brick & mortars were offering delicious things in their own spaces. I saw long lines at Pip’s for their stellar small donuts; people enjoying the covered seating and live at Amalfi’s; coffee, sandwich, and pastry offerings from Grand Central Bakery; and a steady stream of customers at Nepali Kitchen for momos, curry, and chai.

Here’s a sampling of scenes from the Fest. It felt great to be there and the vibe was overwhelmingly positive. Good times!
