Home to past places like Nacheaux, Alameda Hop, and Bourbon Street, the pub space on NE Fremont will welcome a new tenant: Deeply Rooted. Originally from Bend, they are coming to Portland with plant-based eats, cocktails, and a place to watch the game (or fight).
Deeply Rooted was opened in Bend by Devin Sims in March 2020—in hindsight, not the greatest time to open a restaurant but he and his staff persevered and made it through the worst of the pandemic. The entire menu is plant-based, and Devin himself has been a vegan for over a decade. He actually prefers “plant-based” when referring to the restaurant, and does that “in hopes of attracting customers who might be reluctant to walk into a strictly vegan restaurant,” according to an interview he gave with Bend Magazine. I don’t think he has much to worry about, though, in Portland, where access to vegan food is somewhat mainstream.
The Bend location of Deeply Rooted closed in January 2022 (they plan was always to head to Portland). And earlier this year, Deeply Rooted announced they had teamed up with the Xport at the Porter Hotel downtown; this is the hotel’s sports bar. Shortly after that, they announced that they had terminated that relationship. The old Alameda Hop space must have been appealing, and here we are. One of the things they will offer there is a golf simulator, as well as pool tables. And food & drink, of course.
From what I can gather, many of the items on the old menu from their Bend days will be on the Portland menu, as well as some new things, too. You can see examples of some of the things they served up (source: Facebook): food, more food, cocktails, and beverages.
It looks like they plan to be open every day but Tuesday, and the early hours on Saturday and Sunday (opening 9am) indicate to me plans for breakfast/brunch. Look for a midnight close on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, closing down at 2am on Friday and Saturday. Aside from the early opening hours on the weekend, the rest of the days they’ll open at noon for lunchtime enjoyment. Look for around 80 seats indoors and 16 seats outdoors. They should eventually have a full bar.
They are hoping for a mid-November grand opening. I’m happy to see something go in there, and this happy omnivore is looking forward to checking out the place. Here’s hoping for some interesting NA beverages on the menu, too.

There is already a great Vegan sportsbar in Portland called Sportsbox. It is located next to the Acropolis on SE McLoughlin and is owned by Johnny Zukle who also owns Casa Diablo the worlds first vegan strip club.
They have great food and are already open, you should mention to your readers.
