Yokohama Skyline Eatery Opens in NE Portland’s Yard Building

An eagle eye’d Bridgetown Bites reader alerted me to the opening of Yokohama Skyline Eatery that is now open (soft opening phase) in the Yard building there by the Burnside Bridge. This is ramen shop (ramen-ya) offering a small but well-curated menu. The space was formerly home to BKK Thai.

It looks like the parson behind Yokohama Skyline Eatery is Toshiki Yokoo, likely the same person who ran the beloved Sushi PDX cart that closed down in 2015 (and runs the Magokoro Ramen cart in Beaverton). In an old Willamette Week article, the author talked about Sushi PDX this way:

“Out of his humble cart at the Belmont Good Food Here pod, Japan-trained chef Toshiki ‘Toshi’ Yokoo masterfully prepped always-fresh fish and delicately vinegared rice in beautiful proportion. In a certain regard, it was some of the best sushi in the city, because it was the best I could afford to enjoy regularly. But less than a year after I fell in love with the cart, its pod closed down and Yokoo was boxed out of the new one across the street.”

Yokohama Skyline Eatery’s Menu (soft opening)

The menu, which is tailored for the soft opening, offers two fried items and three ramen style. Karaage and gyoza represent the fried things, and for ramen you’ll find Shoyu Ramen, Shio Ramen, and Miso Ramen:

  • Shoyu Ramen (recommended with yuzu or truffle oil). Our original ramen with traditional soy sauce based bone broth. Topped with chashu, spinach, bamboo, soft boiled egg, and green onion.
  • Shio Ramen (recommended with yuzu, niboshi or truffle oils). Our light and refreshing ramen finished with a touch of sea salt. Topped with chashu, spinach, bamboo, soft boiled egg and green onion.
  • Miso Ramen (popular with chili oil). Our hearty ramen with a miso flavor based bone broth. Topped with corn, bean sprouts, bamboo, shush, soft boiled egg and green onion.

The bone broth is pork and chicken based. The abovementioned add-on flavors for ramen include yuzu, niboshi oil, and truffle oil (all $2 each); chili oil, as well as wasabi and garlic ginger (75cents each). As for add-on items, choose from soft boiled egg (whole and half), chashu chicken and pork (2pc), seasoned bamboo, spinach, bean sprouts, corn, and green onions.

Bowls of ramen are $14 to $16 dollars each, with add-ons (50cents to $3) increasing the price.

Yokohama Skyline Eatery will expand their menu as they go along.
