About a month after temporarily closing for its highly anticipated move, Gumba Pasta Parlor is gearing up for its next chapter. While fans and locals await their reopening, the Bridgetown Bites team got a sneak peek of Gumba’s new space and wanted to share a preview. It’s still under construction, but here’s a glimpse at what’s taking shape ahead of Gumba’s exciting reopening later this month.

Gumba’s New Location
Gumba’s new home sits at 2203 NE Alberta Street, just a few blocks down from their previous location. Most recently, it was home to Bonne Chance and before that, the longtime Italian haunt, Ciao Vito. While the space is smaller and more intimate than Gumba’s previous location, it’s being thoughtfully designed and laid out to maximize every inch. The result will be an even cozier, more welcoming setting—one that truly lives up to its name as a place for gathering with close friends—or, “gumbas.”
Also, fun fact: Gumba’s new space is just a block from where the business began as a food cart—making this move a true homecoming.
Gumba’s New Space: Exterior

First things first: Gumba’s bright, open feel is a standout—and a refreshing shift from the space’s previous occupants. Gumba’s team has thoughtfully opened the space up to welcome plenty of natural light, even on a gray Portland day such as when we visited. Anchoring that airy, indoor-outdoor vibe is a retractable garage door (pictured above) that practically invites you in—especially come spring and summer when Portlanders finally get some sunshine.

Gumba’s New Space: Interior Design and Layout
Now let’s talk design, which feels unmistakably like Gumba. We loved how the team thoughtfully carried over signature touches from its previous location, including the colorful, mythological wallpaper hand-drawn by graphic artist, Emma Shipley. Emma was previously based in Portland, making this design feel purposeful and strategic. You may remember it from the back room of Gumba’s previous location.

The main dining room is thoughtfully divided into a few distinct areas, including a small waiting nook up front, featuring some familiar pieces from the old location such as Gumba’s signature yellow couch and chair. The dining room will include two or three large round tables for bigger groups that accommodates up to six people. The rest of the seating will be two-tops, perfect for a cozy, intimate meal with a loved one, a close friend—or gumba, if you will.

The newly built bar is stunning and inviting, with a view into the kitchen—something the old Gumba didn’t offer. Eventually, this area will feature a mix of seating, from benches to cozy banquettes, though for now traditional tables fill the space. It’s the perfect spot to gather for happy hour or to casually enjoy a glass of wine and light bites—or a nice option if you’re dining solo.

Gumba Menu Upgrades and Old Favorites
In addition to previewing their new space, the Gumba team also gave us a behind-the-scenes look at what’s coming to their menu. Fan favorites like their legendary fry bread and house-made pastas (hello, braised beef short rib pappardelle) will still be front and center, but there’s new things, too! With the addition of a grill, which the old space didn’t have, expect heartier and more protein-rich dishes when they reopen.
What’s Next
The team behind Gumba is hard at work bringing the new restaurant to life—and trust us, it’ll be worth the wait. They’re aiming for an opening later this month, so stay tuned for details on exact timing and a possible soft launch. We can already hear the fry bread calling.
A big thank you to the Gumba team for this very special sneak peek—we’re counting down the days until doors reopen.
