On Tuesday, March 24, European nations celebrate Gelato Day—short for European Artisanal Gelato Day—honoring the excellence of artisanal gelato. Each year, the occasion is marked with a special gelato flavor—and this year it comes with a melodic twist! Additionally, it should come as no surprise that Pinolo Gelato, home to authentic Tuscan gelato, is celebrating Gelato Day in Portland, too.

Drumroll … the 2026 gelato flavor of the year is called “Melody.” This special flavor represents the art of handcrafted artisanal gelato, but also the power of music, creating a harmonious composition of both elements. Pinolo Gelato is offering its own take on the flavor, available in the shop from Wednesday March 25 to Sunday, March 29.

What’s in the Melody Gelato Flavor?

You’re probably wondering what’s in the Melody flavor. Featuring a creamy pistachio base swirled with tangelo-kumquat jam and topped with candied pistachios, Melody lives up to its symbolic name. The result is complex and nutty with bright citrus notes that makes the palate sing!

Pinolo Gelato’s Brioche con Gelato Pop-Up for Gelato Day in Portland

From March 25 to 29, Pinolo Gelato will serve the Melody flavor (Note: They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). And there’s an extra treat in store: On Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29, Pinolo will host another Brioche con Gelato pop-up.

During this time, you can enjoy Melody—or any gelato flavor of choice—sandwiched inside Bella’s Italian Bakery’s sweet brioche bread. If past pop-ups like their Valentine’s Day edition are an indication, brioche con gelato “sandwiches” sell out fast, so plan to arrive early to get one.

We can’t wait to hear what you think and how you build your brioche con gelato. Happy Gelato Day, Portland!
