Cobra Dogs soft opens Sunday. Their new brick and mortar presence at See See Motor Co./One Moto Cafe starts off on Sunday, November 1. This is another case of two businesses using the same space—coffee from 7am to 3pm, and hot dogs from noon to 9pm (til 10pm on weekends).
They’ve got a lot of interesting flavor combos for their dogs, but I do love the Cobra Style dog—cream cheese, Cobra sauce, sauerkraut, and celery sauce. I was dubious at first, but now I’ve seen the light. 1642 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland
Kelly’s Olympian has reopened. They did some renovations to the tune of $750,000, too. The bar reopened Tuesday, October 27, and above it is a coworking space from UrbanWork. Renovations also include a passageway between the bar and performance space, and all the work took pace both inside and out. Kelly’s Olympian has been in operation in Portland since 1902. 426 SW Washington Street, Portland
Mini Golf returns to Migration in Gresham. The Cascadia Putting Club is doing another $5 mini golf experience at the Migration Brewing in Gresham. Stop by on Sunday, November 1 from 2pm to 5pm. I did it last time when they were downtown, and had a lot of fun! Plus Migration makes excellent beer. 18188 NE Wilkes Road, Gresham
“My air-sacks have never felt so good!” “Twin Peaks” Season 1 trivia lands at Atlas Pizza on SE Division on Thursday, November 5 at 7:30pm, thanks to Trivia w/Nova. That’ll be after the Midterm Election, so you can either celebrate with pizza or eat your feelings with a pie. There will also be themed pizza by the slice that night. And your arms don’t even have to bend back to enjoy it. 3570 SE Division Street, Portland
Tambayan will close. Sad news, but this celebrated Filipino restaurant is closing because Tita Cindy is retiring. “After 16 years of building community, friendships, and memories, it’s almost time to say farewell We’ll keep everybody posted on the exact closing date, so stay tuned!!” So yes, closing date is to come. I hope Cindy will have a wonderful retirement! 6014 SE Foster Road, Portland
Tea and Kachka event. On Thursday, November 12, Kachka is hosting a dinner featuring the book WITH TEA by Maria Geyman. Tea is very important in Russian culture and to the former Soviet republics, as well as the diaspora around the world. Tea also holds an important space at Kachka.
“We’ll gather over a shared meal of beloved seasonal Kachka dishes, paired with your choice of a flight of tea-infused vodkas or hot teas to enjoy alongside. As the purveyor of her tea company, @mashateas, Maria thoughtfully sources teas from around the world. The evening will conclude with a special tea blend made by Maria, and desserts made from recipes in WITH TEA.”
The evening is $85, which covers the meal and the vodka or tea flight, exclusive of gratuity. The book will be available for purchase (signed copies). You can make your reservation on the Kachka SevenRooms page. 960 SE 11th Avenue, Portland
While Oakshire Brewing’s taproom closed in Portland, they are staying in Eugene. They wrote, “After a whirlwind of changes and uncertainty, we’re incredibly happy to share that Oakshire Public House is here to stay, under the same ownership!” This is great news from Eugene but still sad for Portland. Hoping someone great decides to lease the NE 42nd Avenue taproom space. 207 Madison Street, Eugene
Carver Cafe property is for sale. Open since the 1950s, this is the cafe/diner/coffee shop you may have spotted in the “Twilight” movies—I recently watched the first one for the first time ever and saw it there. Anyway, the property is for sale, as the owner wants to retire. They remain open for now, and hopefully after the sale, too. 6471 SE Highway 224, Damascus
Pau Hana at Departure. They are launching a new Hawaiian-inspired rooftop pop-up starting on Monday, November 2 called Paul Hana. Head to the East Deck for a tropical escape, which is nice for this rainy time of year. There’s going to be Hawaiian comfort food (see below), a walk-up food cart, outdoor charcoal grilling, tiki-inspired cocktails, and lots of plants. You can enjoy Pau Hana through the end of January.
“Inspired by Executive Chef U’ilaniku’ulei ‘U’i’ Vele’s childhood in Wai‘anae, O‘ahu, Pau Hana celebrates the local foods, traditions, and gatherings that shaped her upbringing. ‘Pau hana’ refers to the time after work to unwind and reconnect, often beginning with a simple question: ‘You eat yet?‘”
Here is what you’ll find to eat at Pau Hana:
- Kanaka Plate: Smoked kalua pork and cabbage, gochujang pineapple BBQ, Nana’s Mac Salad, and rice.
- Poke Bowl: Bluefin ahi, Hawaiian shoyu and garlic dressing, sushi rice, cucumber, and avocado yuzu purée.
- Teriyaki Beef Nachos: Marinated ribeye, roasted jalapeño queso, cilantro lime crema, pickled red onions, and fried wonton chips.
- Tropical Cocktails: Colorful creations including the mezcal-based Armadillo with pineapple and Serrano agave, and the Killer Queen featuring rum, pineapple, orange, and coconut cream.
Wonton chip nachos remind me of Expatriate. 525 SW Morrison Street, 15th Floor, Portland

Legacy Coffee will close tomorrow. This is not the original Legacy Coffee (the OG owners sold biz), but the iteration after it that was purchased by Legacy Church in Troutdale (naming was coincidental). After it became clear that Legacy Church (an Assemblies of God denominatiom) was involved, some took a look at its beliefs and decided that this cafe was not for them, taking their business elsewhere. Whether these changes were determining factors in the closing of is unclear.
They wrote on Facebook, “With sad hearts, we announce that Legacy Coffee & Books will be closing permanently on November 1, 2026.” Their final day of service will be Saturday, October 31. 112 N Main Avenue, Gresham
Overflow Coffee has opened. Kynzey Martini, who you may know from Lost & Found Coffee, has opened her own cafe in Multnomah Village, called Overflow Coffee. From what I can tell, it has been very well-received. Their Google listing describes them as, “Built around hospitality, connection, and creating a space people genuinely want to spend time in, Overflow is designed to feel warm, welcoming, and a little special every time you walk in.”
Interesting about Lost & Found Coffee, which closed on August 15, 2026 after Kynzey left to open Overflow. It was located in the Alive Center, part of the Alive Church. It identifies as a nondenominational church, though it was established in Multnomah Village, “through a Kingdom partnership with ONE Church in Aloha, OR.” ONE Church is a Foursquare church; a Kingdom partnership is a faith-oriented partnership with, among others, a goal of spreading the Christian Gospel.
Personally, I’m fascinated by the connection between churches and cafes, and would like to better understand how cafes may or may not be used by Christians as a vehicle for ministry work. Sounds like another research project. 7650 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland
Autumn Coffee has closed in Gresham. Saturday, October 24 was their final day at their Gresham location. They wrote on Facebook, “Thank you to every regular, every first-timer, and every one of you who made this spot feel like home. We couldn’t have asked for better people.” Their Concordia neighborhood cafe (NE 33rd and Killingsworth) remains open 492 NE Second Street, Gresham

Cloud City Ice Cream needs your help. On social media, the folks at Cloud City talked about the “precarious financial position” they are currently in. It seems a major equipment failure happened three summers ago in 2024 and even that far back it set them up for financial problems today. They’ve used their personal savings and investments to keep the business going but it’s not enough.
They looked into loans and have concluded that they are not sustainable in the long run. So, they have launched a GoFundMe campaign, which you can find here. And it’s been going well—at the writing of this article they have raised $56,986 of $60K. I also learned through this plea that they have been around for about 15 years. 4525 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland
Radicchio in the morning. Tomorrow morning—Halloween morning—enjoy radicchio, coffee, gelato, and sweet pastries at Pinolo Gelato. They’ll be celebrating Lane Selman’s new book, Radicchio: A Celebration of the Beloved Italian Vegetable.

REMINDER: Chonghi Pizza will return to Hawai’i. They are heading back to be with family. New ownership at ZINC Bistro & Bar. Current owner Jane Kifer is moving back to the east coast, and after December 23, 2026, she will no longer be the owner. Tom Moore will take on ownership on January 1, 2027; Tom has been the Manager there; you may also know him from his events work on the Multnomah Village Business Association. Jane wrote a very heartfelt message online:
“… our one and only favorite, incredible, wonderful, fantastic, lovable friendly happy, excited Tom Moore. He is so qualified and up to the task and will do great things. I passed the baton of this beautiful restaurant to you, Tom. I’m not crying you’re crying. I’m so excited for both of us for our next venture. I love you and I wish you all the success and the best and the beautiful things that this beautiful restaurant has to offer with a wonderful community and incredible team and beautiful food.” 7800 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland
Cup Coffee has a new residency. And it’s going to be at Antler & Talon Galleries in the Alberta Arts District! They soft launch their coffee cart residency this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, October 31 and November 1 from 8am to 2pm each day. For now they will be open weekends only, but they do plan to expand their days/house in the future.
“This new partnership allows for more public viewing hours for the artwork and allows us the space during hours that the gallery is normally closed.” We wish you guys all the best! 2714 NE Alberta Street, Portland
Fizz N Sip soft opens Sunday in Milwaukie. And the location is the historic soda fountain in what was the Rexall building in downtown Milwaukie that is getting quite the glow up. Head there for their dirty sodas on Sunday, November 1 from noon to 6pm. They call it a “trial run before the big day,” which is Sunday, November 8, and they ask for your patience as they work out the kinks. 10909 SE Main Street, Milwaukie
Winco’s “Bagel Gate,” resolved. A few weeks ago, I read about a kind of annoyance among fans of Winco’s bagels. Full disclosure: I’ve never eaten them so I don’t know personally why they did not cut the mustard, but the dedicated Winco bagel shoppers were NOT HAVING ANY OF IT when it came to the newfangled bagels stocked on the shelves. And they let the company know.
Winco posted this a few days ago: “THEY’RE COMING BACK!!! 😍 You spoke, we listened! Yes, our famous bagels will be making their way back to our employee-owned stores! How soon? We’ll let you know as soon as we have a date. While we don’t have a confirmed date, rest assured that our employee owners are working hard behind the scenes to make it happen.” Multiple locations
Glizzies as far as the eye can see. Otherwise known as the Haunted Hawthorne Hot Dog Crawl. It’s tonight, Friday, October 30 from 6pm to 9pm. Five bars along SE Hawthorne Blvd are offering $5 hot dog specials—Bar Scorpio, JJ’s Bar, Nick’s Famous Coney Island, Zach Shack, and Mulligan’s. Multiple locations
pFriem will open their first location in Portland. They started in Hood River, have a nice spot in Milwaukie, and now they are heading to Portland. I first saw this via their liquor license application but Ezra Johnson-Greenough at New School Beer has a piece on it. Interestingly enough, their neighbor in Hood River, Ferment Brewing, filed a liquor license application for this location—the Hinterland pod—back in February 2025, but obviously that did not go forward. 2216 SE 50th Avenue, Portland
