Portland! It’s where I live, work, and play. It’s where the food news happens (at least most of it). This category is one of the real constants on Bridgetown Bites and is probably a part of almost every post on this blog.
Strange-bird, which has operated as a food cart in Southeast Portland since last year, is transitioning to a brick and mortar, also in Southeast Portland. They’ll be next door to Rhinestone, which started as a pop-up. I ran into Tyler Robb, one of the co-owners, last week and he was kind enough to share some of his time to talk about Strange-bird and their upcoming restaurant. Here is what I learned.

While Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 10, may technically be a Hallmark holiday, it’s still one of my favorite ways to spend time with my family in Portland. Pamana, a restaurant “inspired by Filipino ingredients and dishes,” has been in residency at The Hoxton since last September. They’ve been serving bunch there these past six and a half months or so, and this Thursday, April 30 they’ll launch dinner service at Pamana.
When the owners Geri and Ethan Leung mentioned this to me at a recent event, I knew I wanted to know more. I reached out to them over email with some questions and they were kind enough to respond. Here are the details about dinner at Pamana (which means “legacy” in Tagalog).

After first spying the plans for this food cart pod almost two and a half years ago, Fremont Garage will open Memorial Day weekend. It was great to receive this news earlier this month, and I think this pod will be a really nice addition to the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood. I has the chance to chat with Daniel Silvey and Tyler Caffall last week to get updated on the project, and here is what I learned.

The Slide Inn closes. They announced the closure on their website; their final day of service will be Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10. That day they will serve just brunch, no dinner.
They first opened The Slide Inn in 2012. From the owner: “It’s been my passion and love when I started cooking professionally at age 15 when I did my apprenticeship whilst living in Germany. Sadly, I am now retiring what I have been doing for 51 years. It has brought me so much pleasure and joy serving the community and enabling my guests with dietary restrictions to feel safe and me knowing how to handle each scenario.
