Parallel biscuit pop-up at . Head over to Parallel on NE Sandy and 31st Avenue tomorrow morning starting at 9am for their biscuit sandwich (and coffee) pop-up. They’ve been working on this biscuit for a while and are pretty excited about it. They’ll offer it as a pop-up first to see how folks like it, and possibly add it to the regular menu later. I was told, “House made everything even down to the American cheese.”
They are offering the following combos:
- Biscuit with Jam & Butter, $4
- Egg & Cheese Sandwich, $6
- Meat, Egg & Cheese Sandwich, $10
- Meat Only, $6
- Meat options (all housemade): Fried Chicken, Sausage, or Bacon
It’s made in the same style as Chef Joey grew up with in Georgia. 3101 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland
Stoopid Burger is now open at the Rocket Empire Machine. They used to be over on NE Glisan in The Ocean; now there are on NE Glisan in another one of Guerilla Development’s projects, Rocket Empire Machine. Montavilla News reported on this news, and this quote caught my eye: “He thinks people will appreciate the $5 ‘Super Boring’ burger on the menu, noting that people are experiencing hard times, and it is important to hit that price point.” Sounds good to me. Read more over on Montavilla News. 6935 NE Glisan Street, Portland
Rocky Butte Farmers Market’s 2026 season starts tomorrow. This is their seventh season and they’ll be back at the north end of Glenhaven Park on NE Siskiyou between 79th and 81st Avenues. They’ll be there from 9am to 1pm Saturdays, May through October. “We’ve got an expanded vendor list and some exciting new programming in store for you this year. Come celebrate spring with us!” NE Siskiyou and NE 80th Avenue, Portland
And reminder: Montavilla Farmers Market starts their 20th season on Sunday. We published our interview with market director Lisa Hebert last week (also thanks to Montavilla News for republishing it on their site) about their 20th year in business. Head there Sunday from 10am to 2pm for the awesome market itself, plus activities of varying kinds. 7700 SE Stark Street, Portland
City of Portland and foie gras. The city has decided it will “prohibit the sale or provision of certain force-fed poultry products.” You can read the reasoning on the city’s website, as well as submitted written testimony and supporting documents. Online
Bad Habit Room becomes Far Cry. This space was used by Saraveza for a while, and now it has a new caretaker: Far Cry. “Far Cry will be a bar focused on the appreciation of recorded music. Full sides, all vinyl. Jazz, experimental, blues, country, soul, reggae, ambient, post punk. Anything we love, really.” They’ll have drinks with that: a couple of NA cocktails, a couple of NA beers, and coffee/tea. They hope to open July 2026. We’ll have more on this at a later date, too. 5433 N Michigan Avenue, Portland
Two Kentucky Derby parties tomorrow (that we know of). They are at The Nines and Rhinestone. The latter is throwing a campy/kitschy party hosted by Portland drag queen Pluto. The afternoon will feature “fancy hats, hobby horses, and race-day revelry” between noon and 3pm. 2100 SE Clinton Street, Portland
Last month we wrote about Churchill Nines, taking place in the lobby at The Nines Hotel. This is a ticketed event ($95/general admission) and includes entertainment (T’Kara Starr will be the mistress of ceremonies), drinks, food, and the Derby, of course. This event runs 1pm to 6pm. 525 SW Morrison Street, Portland
On the topic of Rhinestone. They are expanding their brunch program to Saturday (morning and afternoon), so you can enjoy those taste treats from the minds and skills of Chef Graham Chaney and bartender Trevor Thorpe throughout the weekends. 2100 SE Clinton Street, Portland
The Deck reopens Tuesday, May 5. I love this quirky little place right there on a dock in the Columbia River. And they reopen May 5, Cinco de Mayo! I was kind of getting worried there for a bit, since I hadn’t heard from them—would they reopen‽ But it’s all good now. 2901 NE Marine Drive, Portland
And Island Cafe opens Monday, May 4. Just in time for Star Wars Day, and they like to lean into the “taste of the topics” vibe. This is the third in a trio of restaurants there on the Columbia (Sabor del Rio opened last Friday), and it really means summer is here (or at least near). 250 NE Tomahawk Island Drive, Portland
Summertime schedule returns to Pal’s – Hayden Island. That starts today and they’ll be offering one all-day menu (dinner will return in the fall). And since it’s National Burger Month this month, you can enjoy the Pal’s Big Slap Cheeseburger: two 1/4 lb patties, American cheese, and shredded lettuce on a sesame seed bun. It comes “Gil’s way,” with special sauce, pickle, and onion. 515 NE Tomahawk Island Drive, Portland
Restaurant AMA’s tiki bar’s final weekend starts today. This was a pop-up, and now it’s time to open up the rooftop space again. “This is your LAST chance to sip, sway, and soak it all in. In May it returns to the sunshine and chill vibes patio for the drier season.” And they are contemplating what next winter’s rooftop will be, now—if you have an idea, send them a DM.
There will also be live music tonight at 7pm and tomorrow at 8pm, no cover. 112 SE 2nd Avenue, Hillsboro
Foreland Beer will shut down their McMinville operations. But that doesn’t mean they are shutting down for good. They wrote, “Unfortunately we reached a point where we couldn’t move forward with our lease terms and had to make the decision to brew elsewhere.” They’ll be operating in McMinnville for the next couple of months.
For those in Portland, just a reminder that they are on N Broadway in a space where they can operate a pop-up tasting room for Moda Center and area events. 777 NE 4th Street, McMinnville
No Sabo is closing. Tomorrow will be their last day in their South Waterfront space. However, “This isn’t the end of No Sabo, just the end of this chapter. We’re excited for what’s next and to keep building something that feels true to us, so please stay tuned!!” You can stop by tonight for good eats and live music, too. Note: They are running a smaller than usual menu. 3159 S Moody Avenue, Portland
Fressen does a bready happy hour. Every Sunday starting at 12:30pm until close (3pm) head over there for 50% off bread. 7075 NE Glisan Street, Portland
Gracie’s Apizza has closed; Harmonies will open. Saturday, April 25 was their final day of service. We mentioned the anticipated closing in early April (a link to the manager’s account is there), and now we have a statement by the owner, Craig. He is moving his family back to the east coast.
In his statement, he slips this in: “My friend Will, former co-owner of the beloved Handsome Pizza/Seastar will be taking over the space. I wasn’t actively looking to sell but this fell into place so easily. It will not be Gracie’s but I trust Will to take care of you all. Harmonies Pizza and Ice Cream will have lots of similarities but with his own touches.” Harmonies will start out by being open Wednesday through Saturday, 5pm to 8pm. 7304 N Leavitt Avenue, Portland
For Bitter For Worse Cocktails will close. This is a great line of canned NA cocktails. Shelley, the founder, wrote this: “This past year has been a hostile economic environment, and although we are scrappy, resourceful, and resilient, we weren’t able to close the funding round that we needed to support our growth and to maintain our standards.”
Their farewell sale involves some serious discounts: 35% off 3+ items or 50% off 6+ items. You can order their products on their website. I really like their Eva’s Spritz. Very sorry to see them go. Online
Ring Ding Ding has entered the chat. This is a new project from the folks behind Norah, Mestizo, and Nudi and will be in the old Libre space. Cocktails will be a focus, and their also highlight “guest chefs & mischievous pours.” This is the old Libre space. 2601 SE Clinton Street, Portland
Lúa is for sale. They are currently looking to “pass the torch to a new owner who can bring fresh energy and ideas to this spectacular space.” If you are interested, email them at LuaLLC@iCloud.com. 3971 N Williams Avenue, Suite #103, Portland
Pizza Week might be over, but Pizza Island is coming soon. Taking place at Gabby’s Next Door, Tyler Hoyt of Willamette Pizza Co and Isaac Osejo of Noodle Gang PDX are gonna collab for a pizza party on Saturday, May 16 from 2pm to 8pm. 5425 NE 30th Avenue, Portland
Pip’s Pub has opened. I missed their opening originally, which was March 13, 2026. This is a new restaurant from the Paqui Modern Mexican folks, who had to close their restaurant on Sandy Blvd. At Pip’s in Gresham you’ll find wings, burgers, fish & chips, tots, mozzarella sticks, fish tacos, and a couple of salads.
One person online added about the location (formerly Big Apple), “That spot has had a few owners but these guys are doing it right, built out a new full kitchen.” Nice. 1125 NE Kane Drive, Gresham
Jerry’s Tavern turns two today. That’s some sweet, sweet alliteration right there. Today, Jerry’s is two years old. He points out that it’s also Budweiser‘s birthday, so he’s offering Buds and burgers for two bucks each, $22 anniversary t-shirts (while supplies last), and maybe some other surprises. Sounds like it’s going to be a good time. 3010 NW Nicolai Street, Portland
Javelina turns one. They’ll be celebrating tomorrow, Saturday, May 2 from 11am to 2pm with a fry bread taco buffet—there will be traditional toppings and “fun” toppings like hot Cheetos, nacho cheese, chicken, plus hot sauces. On that topic, there will be a chance to vote for your favorite/the best in-house hot sauces.
It’s $40 and you get two trips to the buffet (this is not an AYCE situation). Cash bar, no takeaway orders. You can reserve your seat via their OpenTable page, and there will be some walk-ins possible. 4636 NE 42nd Avenue, Suite A, Portland
D’s Knots has arrived. And they did so on National Pretzel Day! D’s Knots is a new small-batch pretzel purveyor based right here in Portland, and is co-owned by our very own Judith Rich. (Fun fact: The “D” in “D’s Knots” stands for her husband, Dan). So head over to their website, check out their pretzel options (plain, salty, everything, vegan), and get free delivery with code BRIDGETOWNBITES. Online
Denizen Apartments will welcome Maison 1. Looks like a new cafe called Maison 1 will open up in the Kerns neighborhood in the Denizen apartments. They identify as a “coffee atelier” and along with “elevated coffee” they will offer “protein cuisine.” This cafe will not be far from Nova Coffee on the next block. 518 NE 20th Avenue, Suite 3-B, Portland
New prix fixe menu and wine program at 82 Acres. You’ll be able to partake in a new Farm Menu at 82 Acres, “inspired by the success of Portland Dining Month.” It’s $55 and includes
- Appetizer: Farm Egg with tomato aioli, chili oil, crispy chicken skin, and smoked trout roe.
- Main: Ham “Steak Oscar” with crab, hollandaise, asparagus, and pickled carrots.
- Dessert: Cherry with cherry blossom, chocolate mousse, and almond cake.
And about that wine program, from their recent newsletter, “The restaurant debuts a new wine program under the direction of incoming wine director Dana Frank. The program leads with a Pacific Northwest focus, championing wines from organic and biodynamic vineyards and small, family-operated wineries. This includes a curated selection from Abbey Road Farm’s own winery and estate vineyard, where 16 grape varieties are grown. A smaller selection of European wines rounds out the list.” 2032 SE Clinton Street, Portland
Ghiền Bún Bò has opened in Beaverton. Yvette Chau posted about this new spot on her Instagram (and other social channels). She got Ca phe sua da ($6.99), Bun Bo hue ($18.99), and Ghiền’s Signature ($23). Check out the full review here. 12800 SW Canyon Road, Beaverton
And King’s Bakery has an Instagram! Looks like they started it up last month. This is a local family-owned bakery making all sorts of Chinese pastries like various buns, sesame balls, Portuguese egg tarts, sponge cakes, and more. They are easy to miss there on 82nd Avenue, but I encourage you to keep your eyes peeled and check them out. 2346 SE 82nd Avenue, Portland
Kokikoki Bakehouse returns. After a week or so of a much-needed pause, they’re back open tomorrow, Saturday, May 2, which means enjoying their cookies, matcha, and coffee becomes real again. “We’re ready to welcome you back.” 4063 N Williams Avenue, Portland
Vegan terrine alert. Joel Carter Jackson and his team have been creating some interesting and tasty things over at 45th Parallel Wines (we mentioned them last month), and he revealed some specifics of the things they’ve been working on. That includes the aforementioned vegan terrine (with lettuce sauce), a classic pork paté, house cured coppa, and a chicken Caesar sandwich.
He also wrote, “We are expecting to start rotating farmers market products in, as well as a number of curing and fermented projects.” Color me intrigued. 8527 N Lombard Street, Portland
The former 3 Doors Down space is getting a new restaurant. That would be Maura’s, which describes itself as “a neighborhood cantina rooted in memory, Jalisco tradition, and everyday gathering.” Alejandro Preciado and Katelyn Stewart of Salem’s Precious Pizza, which started the pop-up P3 in December 2020 (that was during the COVID pandemic), are behind this project. 1429 SE 37th Avenue, Portland
Tammy Kitchen To Go, inside the 76 on the corner of NE 33rd Avenue and Killingsworth is a hidden gem. They offer a small but satisfying menu of Vietnamese bites and are especially known for their salad rolls and crispy egg rolls. When you walk into the 76 convenience store, head all the way to the back to check out the menu, then grab your order up front. A pack of four hearty salad rolls is just $6, and five egg rolls come in at only $5. What a steal! 3323 NE Killingsworth Street, Portland
