Fried spaetzle with speck, onions, and Swiss cheese at The Slide Inn.

The Slide Inn closes. They announced the closure on their website; their final day of service will be Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10. That day they will serve just brunch, no dinner.

They first opened The Slide Inn in 2012. From the owner: “It’s been my passion and love when I started cooking professionally at age 15 when I did my apprenticeship whilst living in Germany. Sadly, I am now retiring what I have been doing for 51 years. It has brought me so much pleasure and joy serving the community and enabling my guests with dietary restrictions to feel safe and me knowing how to handle each scenario. Thank you to all my loyal customers, thank you for your patience and understanding.” 2348 SE Ankeny Street, Portland

Lil Pig Lil Pig opening in Vancouver. They call themselve “a modern rotisserie, smokehouse, and pour house in Vancouver, built around doing a few things exceptionally well.” Look for slow-spun rotisserie meats, house-smoked pork, porchetta, pastrami, chicken, housemade bread, and sauces. They’ll also offer Washington State beer, wine, and spirits, 24 rotating taps, draft cocktails, and more.

This is the former 3 Howls Remedy House space, which closed last November. For at least a while, they served vegan food; meat entered the chat later. My understanding is that the owners are the same. Look for a projected mid-May opening. 2014 Main Street, Vancouver

Who was Roscoe? “Roscoe” being the namesake of the pub at the corner of SE 81st Avenue and SE Stark Street. Montavilla News has the details. 8105 SE Stark Street, Portland

Good news! Score, A Baker Fair returns. They’ll be back at Zenger Farm on Sunday, June 14, 2026. This is such a great event—a whole bunch of microbakers in one place, ready for you to check them out and buy their delicious things. And more! We’ll have more details as we get close to the event. 11741 SE Foster Road, Portland

Mémoire Cà Phê is moving. They said, “An incredible opportunity has presented itself and we’ve secured a bigger location that’s still on alberta!” They are keeping the location details close to the vest, but we hope to have more info soon, so stay tuned. You can DM them if you know of anyone who might want to take over their current space. 1495 NE Alberta Street, Portland

And Portland Cà Phê celebrates five years! And they’ve been celebrating this week. Yesterday was a BOGO drink special with DJ Yoitsvo spinning in the afternoon. Today over at Good Neighbor Cà Phê there’s a throwdown happening (sign-ups at 6pm). 1650 NW 23rd Avenue, Portland

And tomorrow (Saturday) they pay respects to Richard Le and Lisa Nguyen, who were there from the beginning:

“Richard will be outside on the grill cooking up bánh mì, and Lisa will be baking a basque ube flavor cheesecake! You can grab them together or individually. We’ll also have a BOGO special on all specialty drinks, we’re bringing in Mark Benoza to curate the vibes.” It all starts at 10am. There’s also some exclusive 5 year merch. 2815 SE Holgate Blvd, Portland

New savory treats at Mako Matcha Mill. This matcha cafe (where they do indeed mill matcha) is right below Masu Sushi, and they now have some items from Masu on their menu. There’s Spam musubi: layers of tamago, furikake rice, and pan-fried Spam, and “some other Masu goodies.” So stop on by and check them out. 414 SW 13th Avenue, Portland

Farmhouse Kitchen x Veganizer meal starting this weekend. Waz Wu and her Veganizer team are putting together another great vegan meal by Chef Kasem Saengsawang (aka Chef Pop). They are teaming up with Farmhouse Kitchen for a $45 vegan and gluten-free give-course menu. This is only available at the Hawthorne location from Sunday, April 26 to Thursday, April 30. You can add on a glass of Sauvignon Blanc for $8, and butterfly pea flower limeade soda for $5.

The courses include Tom Kha soup, a veggie fresh roll, Yum Som (pomelo salad), spicy Tom Yum Mapo tofu (or yellow curry for folks who prefer less heat), and mango butterfly pea flower sticky rice. You can reserve your ticket on the Farmhouse Thai OpenTable page. 3354 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland

Coffee service has arrived at Novel Book Bar. When we spoke to them last, they were getting ready to implement coffee service, and now it’s here. They continue to be open Saturday nights from 7pm to midnight only. 322 NW Everett Street, Portland

ICYMI: Saint Simon is closing their NE Broadway location. We mentioned it last Friday, but they’ve posted more info since then: “As we continue to grow, we’ve decided to close the Broadway location and focus fully on our NE Brazee shop nearby. May 3rd will be our last day of service at our original location. This shift allows us to refine what we do and thoughtfully make space for what comes next.” 2005 NE Broadway, Portland

Cliff’s has opened. Looks like Wednesday April 22 was their first day in the new location on NE Alberta. Their fans are chuffed. And, it looks pretty nice inside! Here’s their menu. 2934 NE Alberta Street, Portland

Tight Tacos is leaving The Zipper. I had heard a rumor about one of the businesses leaving The Zipper, but was unaware of where the vacancy was going to be, and now I know: Tight Tacos. This means there is a micro restaurant space there, with Paydirt, Basilisk, Hello Pho, and Boxcar Pizza as neighbors. The space is about 800sf and there’s a big communal dining space that all the guests can use. If you’re interested in taking over this space, shoot a message to the guys at hello@paydirtbar.com for more into. 2707 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland

Pizza is on the menu at Hey Luigi. I saw Gabriel Pascuzzi on Tuesday and he told me he had launched a new pizza program at the restaurant. He’s making Neo-Neapolitan style pies; additionally, he’s removed the chicken sandwich and the burger from the menu. 2175 NW Raleigh Street, Portland

The Beaverton Sizzle Pie will close. Final day of service is Sunday, April 26, according to an employee, and reported on Reddit. 12645 SW 1st Street, Beaverton

Pickleback Tavern has closed. It’s unfortunate that it happened, but real talk: I drive by there often and do not remember seeing much in the way of cars parked in the lot. The folks who ran Pickleback Tavern I believe own the building, and a tipster told me that a sign for a new taqueria is up. 2530 NE 82nd Avenue, Portland

Simply Beautiful will open a cafe in Vancouver. They’ll expand their name to Simply Beautiful Cakes, Bakery & Coffee, and will be located where Lakomka European Deli was—not too far from the original location of NYC Pizzeria. The owners has a couple more months at least of “remodeling, planning, and lots of baking as we create a cozy place for you to enjoy beautiful cakes, fresh pastries, and coffee.” 516 SE Chkalov Drive #3, Vancouver

Project Matcha is coming to Cedar Hills. The Cedar Hills Crossing website says “Construction is underway!” Looks like it will be in the building across the street from Legacy Heath and up the street from the Arby’s. They plan to open May 2026. 3205 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton

French-tastic Patisseries turns one. Mylene informed us all that this small GF French patisserie she created is one year old! She writes, “Starting a GF journey was really tricky and challenging, not talking about making my own GF blend adjustment or cost but more ‘how can I keep the authenticity of all these French pastries I used to have back in France?’ And how can I add some southeast Asian flavors in it to celebrate my beautiful heritage while keeping it authentic?”

Big congrats to Mylene—and she is taking pre-orders now for her Mother’s Day menu. Online

Some interesting seasonal drinks at Prince Coffee rn. This week they started making Watermelon Matcha Soda, Mint Cream Cold Brew, and Black Sesame Apricot Latte. Love these flavor combinations! Plus, their new Killingsworth location is opening in May! 915A NW 19th Avenue and 4523 NE Fremont Street, Portland

Lilla reopens in May. They announced their timing: Last day of service at their current/old space is Sunday, April 26, opening in the new location is Friday, May 1. They’ve been working hard on the space and I look forward to seeing how they’ve transformed this former pizzeria. 1713 NE 15th Avenue, Portland

Pure Green will open in Cedar Mill. This nationwide franchise is opening a new location in Cedar Mill. They offer cold-pressed juices, smoothies, açai bowls, and other crunchy tasty things. Their new Cedar Mill location will open Saturday, May 2 from 10am to 2pm. They’ll have a DJ, local pop-ups, prizes, and more. 12525 NW Cornell Road, Suite 104, Portland

Wyrd brought home the gold. That would be the Gold Medal on their four mead submissions to the 2026 National Small Producer Wine Invitational! This was the first competition they ever entered and they should be really proud of themselves. The four mead flavors they submitted are (with their copy):

  • Semi-sweet Traditional: Our flagship made from local Oregon Wildflower and BlackBerry Honey.
  • Blueberry Vanilla: A fan favorite made from local Oregon Wildflower honey, blueberries, aged on Madagascar vanilla beans. Flavor originally chosen by Katheryn Winnick from the hit show, “Vikings.”
  • Spiced BlackBerry: A new flavor of Oregon Wildflower honey, blackberries, and aged on a variety of spices. A Collaboration with US Power Doom Metal Band Beholder.
  • Lavender Vanilla: A semi-sweet metheglin made from local Oregon Wildflower honey and aged on lavender and Madagascar vanilla beans.

And if that wasn’t enough, they are in the process of getting picked up by American Northwest Distributors to begin getting their meads distributed throughout the PNW. 4515 SE 41st Avenue, Portland

Baguette Bros opened this week. We mentioned them here earlier this year, and they opened last Saturday in Tualatin. “Your new go-to spot for fresh baguettes, sandwiches, and boba is here.” You can see their range of offerings on their website. 7028 SW Nyberg Street, Tualatin

In N Out opened yesterday in Vancouver. This California-based fast food chain known for its “animal style” option and other secret menu items (like the Grilled Cheese, though apparently these things are now on the “not so secret menu“), controversial french fry quality, creative adjustment of their bumper stickers, and bible verses on their cups, is now open. You’ll be able to get your fix 10:30am to 1am Monday to Thursday, and until 1:30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Regarding the expected traffic lines at the drive-thru, Sarah Wolf at The Columbian reported this: “What we learned is In-N-Out really, really cares about what happens during their grand opening with regards to traffic,” Ryan Lopossa, transportation manager for the city of Vancouver, told The Columbian in January. “They don’t want to see it messy.” 13511 SE Third Way, Vancouver

Bobadochi opened in Beaverton. Their grand opening was a couple of weeks ago on Saturday, April 11—they are located right around the corner from Yumee Katsu. And, they are now offering real fruit purees instead of the artificial syrups they had been using. I saw the owners, Sunny and Ramsey, this week and they said the NE Alberta location that opened earlier this year is doing very well. 11350 SW Canyon Road, Beaverton

Original Dream Pizza’s Pizza Week special tomorrow. Head to this North Tabor pizzeria tomorrow from 5pm to 8pm for slice and pie deals, plus DJ Lo (Carlos Diaz) will be spinning some tunes. Pizza Week’s final day is Sunday, April 26. 4620 NE Glisan Street, Portland

OG Birrieria is open in Lake Oswego. I remember hearing about this back in September 2024, but for reasons that at mostly boring, I was unable to get the 411. But Mark Larsen at the Lake Oswego Review has the details. They had a soft opening on Wednesday, April 22; it’s in the old Giant Drive-In space (closed in 2023); you’ll find Mexican food and a full bar serving margaritas, beer, etc. The owner Richard Hurtado is pretty excited about it all. 15840 Boones Ferry Road, Lake Oswego

Portland Cider Company is closing its Clackamas taproom. The final day of service is Sunday, April 26. They wrote that it wasn’t an easy decision, but they are still committed to their community and making great ciders. Portland Cider products will still be available on tap at bars and restaurants in the area, as well as venues and at events; plus you can also buy their cider in retail establishments. They also added this:

“While the restaurant is closing, this space won’t go quiet. We plan to continue hosting a few of our favorite events each year, including our annual anniversary party and other special gatherings that bring people together around cider.” 8925 SE Jannsen Road, Clackamas

Reminder: Sabor del Rio opens today! And they are building a new waterfront deck offering “More room for food, drinks, and those Columbia River views you love.” Seriously, these restaurants on the Columbia River have such great vibes. So stop on by for some Puerto Rican and American food when you can! 3307 NE Marine Drive, Portland

Blue Pine Grill has opened their second location. I had been following this but it dropped off for a bit, and now I’ve learned that they opened! It was a long time coming, too. They opened about a month and a half ago on Wednesday, March 11. It’s another dining option in downtown Gresham, which is a really sweet little downtown, where you can get things like burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, wings, tacos, and more. 124 NE 3rd Street, Gresham

Maree will open in a space with a lot of history. That would be the Dame/Dame Collective space. It’s a project by Garrett McAleese of the Kells family of businesses, and Fantino in Southeast Portland. They plan to be open Wednesday through Saturday from 5pm to 10pm. 2930 NE Killingsworth Street, Portland
