Jade Rabbit Is Moving to SE Hawthorne in Portland

Earlier this month, Cyrus Ichiza, founder and head chef at Jade Rabbit—Portland’s queer-run, worker-owned vegan Pan-Asian restaurant and teahouse—shared the news that the restaurant is moving from its home on SE Belmont Street to a new, 3,000 square foot space on SE Hawthorne. The location was a little bit of a mystery at first, but I figured out where they are going to be: The old Afterlife space across from Tov Coffee. That was later confirmed in a press release.

I chatted with Cyrus last week to learn more about their move at Jade Rabbit itself, and here is what we talked about.

Daisuke Matsumoto and La Sorrentina Recognized by APN For Their Authentic Pizza Making in Vancouver

I recently learned from a Bridgetown Bites reader that Daisuke Matsumoto and his pizzeria La Sorrentina in Vancouver, Washington have been recognized by the Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani (APN) for their pizza work. For Daisuke, his recognition is as an Official Neapolitan Pizzaiolo. For the pizzeria, it is recognized as “an establishment that faithfully represents the traditions, techniques, and values of authentic Neapolitan pizza.”

I reached out to them to learn more, and had an interesting conversation with La Sorrentina co-owner, Amy Matsumoto. Here is what I learned.

Atlas Pizza: Coming To the Original Dream Pizza Space in Portland

A Bridgetown Bites tipster pointed me to an announcement from Atlas Pizza: They will take over the Original Dream Pizza space in September 2026. Original Dream will close at the end of August.

This will be the fourth location for Atlas Pizza, and their first in Northeast Portland. Here is what we know.

TODOS Media: New Documentary Filmmaking, in Conversation

TODOS Media has been busy. Founded by Angel Medina of República fame with videographer Braulio Díaz (who has since moved on to other projects), they launched their Youtube channel in September 2024 and their own digital platform later that month. I learned that Angel and TODOS Media are actively producing three documentary series: Humble Kitchen, which premiered on July 23; Her Way, premiering on August 27; and Season 2 of Memorable, premiering on October 8.

I sat down with Angel to chat about his work and here is some of what we talked about.
