Pamana is open. This Filipino restaurant from the folks at Baon Kainan is now open and in residence at The Hoxton hotel lobby. For their grand opening week, which started on Wednesday, September 3 and goes until Sunday, September 7, you can get:
- Brunch from 9am to 2pm
- NA drinks from Pamana and cocktails from Lovely Rita on Saturday and Sunday
- One red envelope comes with every order during the grand opening week (while supplies last).
- There will also be a local DJ spinning on the weekend.
Big congrats on the opening, guys! 15 NW 4th Avenue, Portland
Deadshot is closing. Bummer news, I know. Here’s why:
“This decision wasn’t made lightly. The truth is simple—sales just aren’t there anymore, while costs keep climbing. Between inflation, the state of the economy, and our ‘fearless leadership’ in DC, the restaurant business hasn’t exactly been set up to thrive. One big repair bill could sink us, and we’d rather bow out on our own terms than wait for the floor to drop out.”
Miracle, their annual Christmas-themed pop-up, will still go on at the current location, and they hope give it a new home in 2026. The final day of service will be Saturday, November 8. 2133 SE 11th Avenue, Portland
But Slow Bar lives! Back in July, we told you that Slow Bar was closing after 21 years in business (final day was Saturday, August 9). Well, they did close … but someone bought the bar! The two new owners, Katie and David, announced it on Instagram:
“We bought a bar! And not just any bar but my home Slow bar! We have some things to get taken care of but we will be back open as soon as we are able and will keep everyone posted with what that looks like!” 533 SE Grand Avenue, Portland
The Indoor Trio opens this fall. A new food cart hall in the former Anna Bananas space in St. Johns called The Indoor Trio is looking to open in October or November of this year. The “trio” part is because they are going to have three food options (“Three flavors, one roof”) in there, plus a bar. That includes the Drunken Noodle cart, a Vietnamese cart, and a third cart TBD. 8716 N Lombard Street, Portland
Portland Bread Fest returns September 28. Head to the Melody Event Center in SE PDX on Sunday, September 28 for Portland Bread Fest (here’s our previous coverage). There, you’ll find “30 of the most talented bakers pastry chefs, bread makers, and artisans to showcase their skills and serve up pure, delicious magic.” Presented by Good Dough, Nurvrei, and Melody Event Center. $5 at the door. 615 SE Alder Street, Portland
Help bring sourdough english muffins to Portland. Baker Matt Shoemake has developed a sourdough english muffin recipe that he believes “rises above the rest” and he’s “decided to give this dream a go.” He’s running a Gofundme campaign with a $5,000 goal:
“This crowd funding is to cover start up expenses such as small equipment, commissary kitchen rent, ingredients and all that fun paperwork for the government. With your help I hope to start something that can change the course of my families life and give me a level of professional pride that I have been longing for.”
He’ll also be doing some pop-ups at Workshop Vintage and Cherry Sprout Produce (that’s where Deirdre Tipley and their Red Hen Bagelry has had a pop-up presence).
Gin Thai Brasserie wins second at the Fair. They entered their Thai Style Chili Green Pickles (Prik Nam Som) to a food competition (Preserved Foods: Pickles & Relishes: Other not already listed) at the Oregon State Fair and they won second place. “We are so proud and honored, it is like a push for us to create more recipes in the future.” Congrats! 3176 NW 185th Avenue, Portland
Level Beer has a bunch of fresh hop beers for Fresh Hop American Summer. Get access to all their ten fresh hop beers on tap at Level Beer—at all three locations—for Fresh Hop American Summer. It starts Friday, September 19 and goes through to the end of Sunday, September 21 (btw, the fall equinox is the next day). “Grab a fresh hop flight and bundle it with a 4 pack of fresh hop beer and a t-shirt at a discount! Available while supplies last.” 5211 NE 148th Avenue, 7840 SW Capitol Hwy, and 1447 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland
Hit The Spot has closed. More sad news. “We are officially closed. We hope this isn’t the end. We are gonna do everything in our power to come back. We lost our entire savings and our home in this space. Thank you all so much for your continued love and support. We hope to see you again.” I do hope they can return. 676 SE Morrison Street, Portland
Peter’s Bar & Grill is open on NFL Sundays. Normally they don’t open until 11:30am, but they are back to their breakfast hours while Sunday’s pro football games are on the TV. 9:45am is when they open and if it’s like last year there will be eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and possibly a few other things. The food is just plain good there, so whatever they are serving up will be tasty. 5701 NE Fremont Street, Portland
New Seasons will get a new HQ. The Oregonian reported that New Seasons headquarters is moving to new digs closer to the river, but still on the east side. They “chose the Skylight building, developed at 120 S.E. Clay St. by real estate firm Killian Pacific, following an extensive search for a new office.” They’ve had their offices at the former Washington High School since 2015 (where interestingly, there’s a permit for work being done on the roof deck there). 120 SE Clay Street, Portland
36 Hours in Portland. The NY Times published a roundup of places where you can hang for 36 hours in our fair city. Some of the recommendations included the Cascada (the wellness-themed hotel, not be confused with the German group responsible for “Evacuate the Dancefloor“), Mt Tabor, Lauretta Jean’s, Orange & Blossom, Dawnbringer, The Goodfoot, and Really Good Stuff, among others. Here’s the unlocked article. Multiple locations
The Side Yard Farm is expanding. This Northeast Portland urban farm, catering company, and venue is opening a second farm in southern Oregon. Owner Stacey Givens writes, “The Rogue Valley has been my 2nd home for the last 3+ years and I’ve decided it was time to put down more roots. With the family farm growing the goods, we needed a brick & mortar to go with it. Construction began in June and we are getting closer to opening!” Here’s the rest of their announcement. 180 N Main Street, Suite 102B, Phoenix OR
A sweet treat for kids at ZabPinto Thai PDX. We wrote about this ZabPinto location in Cascade Station earlier this year, and this month they are celebrating the back-to-school season with a sweet treat for families. Throughout the month of September, families who show a same-day receipt from any Cascade Station store will receive a free kid’s scoop of ice cream with the purchase of a meal. 10127 NE Cascade Pkwy, Portland
A Night at Athens West. The Hellenic-American Cultural Center & Museum is hosting an event called “A Night at Athens West” in October. This is a fundraiser for the HACCM.
“Step back in time to Athens West, Portland’s first Greek nightclub. In the 1960s and 1970s, the establishment was one of many Greek owned businesses in Portland’s Old Town, where it drew crowds to its live performances and energetic atmosphere.
“Fast forward to 2025: HACCM will be recreating Athens West for one night only, and we invite you to join us for an evening of music, dancing, and celebration of our local history.” More details and ticket links on the HACCM website. 3131 NE Glisan Street Portland
Dos Hermanos Bakery expands, Lil’ America is out. The Portland Business Journal reported that the Dos Hermanos Bakery on SE Stark Street is out of space and wants to expand. And that expansion will displace the Lil’ America food cart pod. Before Lil’ America opened, Mid City Smashed Burger occupied that space.
FTA: “Four of the six carts were given 60 days notice, as required by their lease agreements, to leave ahead of construction that is slated to start in November, said Kurt Huffman, who is co-owner of Dos Hermanos through ChefStable and also manager of the cart pod.” When all is said and done, taco cart Los Plebes will remain at this location. 1015 SE Stark Street, Portland
