Deadstock Coffee is closing it NW Portland shop at the end of the month. This was another big piece of news from last week that got to me late on Friday 12/19. Deadstock, which has been in Old Town-Chinatown since 2015, will have its last day of service on Wednesday, December 31. Their Beaverton location is doing well and experiencing growth, but as they say, “Sometimes, real good things come to an end.”
However, there’s this: “I know it might sound sad, it might sound somber, but we’re gonna be back! We’re just gonna take a little break for a bit. Stay tuned for what’s next!” 408 NW Couch Street, Portland
Voysey transition. Thanks to a Bridgetown Bites reader, I learned that this is the final month as a cocktail bar for Voysey, the speakeasy under Loyal Legion. In the new year they will “transtition to an event focused venue led by our neighbors at The Evergreen.” 710 SE 6th Avenue, Portland
More below ground news: Honorable Mention. In the new year, Honorable Mention will open in the basement of The Benson Hotel (home to the annual Gingerbread Masterpiece). Described as “An Elevated Sports Lounge & Speakeasy,” look for them in late January 2026. 309 SW Broadway, Portland
La Factoria has opened. They did so last Sunday, December 21 with a grand opening. They emphasized their brunch, which makes sense for opening on a Sunday. They identify as “an upscale, Latin-inspired restaurant bar” with “a lively ambiance filled with bold décor, warm lighting, and live Latin DJ sets.” You can see their full menu on their website. 22 NE 2nd Avenue #100, Portland
Taco Pedaler’s restaurant will close in the new year. They’ll be open through the end of December, “with plans beyond that still being finalized.” Their catering side will continue, and they are looking to downsize to a food cart. Here are their thoughts about the near future:
“We are currently exploring opportunities for someone to take over the space—whether that’s a new restaurant concept, pop-ups, events, or other creative possibilities. Our hope is to find the right fit to continue bringing life and food to the space that has been home to us since 2015.” More information is on their Instagram. 2225 NE Broadway, Portland
$6 Cheeseburgers today at Alphabet Burger Co. This is “a little krampus present to everyone.” They’re selling their Basic Betty for six bucks until they run out. They’re at the Chill N Fill. It’s gonna be epic. 5215 N Lombard Street, Portland
Also at the Chill N Fill, $1 BEC on New Year’s Day at Piccone’s Quality Deli. “We had a lot of fun with this last year, so we’re bringing it back for round two.” That’s right—a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll for a buck. Limit four sandwiches per party. Also: “We’re updating our service method and hopefully can churn through a line much quicker.” 5215 N Lombard Street, Portland
Lansdowne Social is moving to NW Portland. They’ll be moving from their location on NE 28th Avenue’s “restaurant row” to Slabtown, in a space they call their “forever home.” They look to open in early 2026. 1639 NW Marshall Street, Portland
The Acropolis Steakhouse is for sale. I first caught wind of the news from the Portland Business Journal (non-paywall). Here’s the Loopnet ad—it’s listed for $1,950,000. This strip club/steakhouse was founded by the Polizos family with the original name of Athens West Steakhouse. They offered Greek food, and later added dancers. It has not been immune to its share of drama over the years, either.
The property is zoned Commercial Employment (CE) with two overlays: Design and Environmental. Specific allowable uses include: retail sales and services, office space, quick vehicle servicing, vehicle repair, self-service storage, household living, institutional uses, and limited manufacturing, and other low-impact industrial uses. Read more about the zoning on the Portland Zoning Map. 8325 SE McLoughlin Blvd, Portland
Singacoustic will open in January. This is the old Church Bar location; they closed at the end of June this year. Singacoustic, as you can imagine, focuses on acoustic live performances—open mic, singer-songwriters, and the like. They’ve put a lot of thought into their food program:
“At the heart of Singacoustic is a mission to integrate creativity and education. We proudly collaborate with culinary and cooking schools graduates and Media Arts programs, offering students and recent graduates real-world experience in a working venue environment. Our kitchen is fully operated by culinary and cooking schools graduates and alumni, who are responsible for every aspect of food service-from crafting the menu and designing recipes to managing kitchen production and plating dishes with care. The result is a fresh evolving culinary experience that reflects both skill and innovation.” Chef Cara Nokes will helm the kitchen. You can see the menu here. 2600 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland
Sleepy Monk on the Oregon Coast will close. This popular cafe and roaster in Cannon Beach will permanently close on Monday, December 29 after 15 years in business. They’ll still roast coffee, which you can access via their online store. 1235 S Hemlock Street, Cannon Beach
Antojitos Mexicanos will become Mezcalaria & Taqueria El Gordito. This colorful little building in Parkrose has new owners with new ideas for the place. They bought the business last October and their aim is to make it a bit more upscale than it has been. The owners come from Oaxaca, Mexico, and specialize in marinated meats and mole.
One of the owners told me, “Our goal is to make this once mostly takeout restaurant to a family sit down, and then eventually a late night bar.” Recipes are from Mexico and dishes are made fresh daily. They are making the official switch the first of the year. 11516 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland
Joyous Kwanzaa is tomorrow. Kwanzaa sarts today! And lasts until Thursday, January 1. The third annual Joyous Kwanzaa Celebration, which is a community event honoring the principles of Kwanzaa, is happening tomorrow, December 27 from 5pm to 8pm. That is the second day of Kwanzaa named Kujichagulia, or “Self-Determination.” There will be local vendors, food, activities, art, games, and more. 15707 SW Walker Road, Beaverton
