The news is out but I wanted to chime in with how thrilled I am that Montelupo Italian Market is going to open its indoor dining room this Friday—plus Monty’s Caffè on Saturday! It’s been over a year since they opened and I am sure they are excited to move forward with dining service for their customers inside their space.

First Tastes: Breakfast at Steeplejack

Over the weekend I stopped in at Steeplejack for breakfast before taking care of some errands in the general area. I got a tip off their Instagram page, where they posted “we are slowly rolling out our breakfast program” and I found that hard to resist. I arrived around 8:30am on a Sunday and had a satisfying and tasty breakfast in a beautiful space.

I have a soft spot in my heart for hyperlocal reporting—it’s where I started in digital publishing, and before that I participated in BBS communities that focused on very narrow topics and/or locations. Some of you may know that I enjoy perusing city documents to understand better what is going on in this city, especially when it comes to restaurants and real estate (I used to blog about Queens real estate many years ago). Here are some of the more interesting things I’ve come across lately, thanks to publicly-available city documents.

World Cup Coffee and Tea House. This is the little cafe inside Powell’s Books downtown. They’ll be doing what is considered “minor tenant improvement,” which includes changing the seating area and adding a wood-slat ceiling over the reading are of the cafe. 1035 W Burnside Street, Portland
