Top 5 Posts On Bridgetown Bites, January 2019

It’s time to bring back this old chestnut—the top five posts on Bridgetown Bites in January 2019. Of the five, one post was written last year, and keeps showing up in my analytics—the closing of Salt, Fire & Time (I still miss that place). Anyway, here are the five posts you read most often this past month; and thanks to Eater and Reddit for the traffic.

5. It’s Official: Gado Gado Is Coming to the Hollywood District

Earlier this week, I mentioned that a restaurant named Gado Gado will move into the now-shuttered My Canh space later this year, and wondered if it was the same Gado Gado as the robust and popular Asian food popup. Today I learned via Eater that Portland Monthly confirms it. This is pretty exciting news for the Hollywood District! Their food looks and sounds delicious.

4. Salt, Fire & Time To Close This Month

I was very sorry to hear that Salt, Fire & Time/Broth Bar (115 NE 6th Avenue) is set to close on March 24, after 10 years in the business. Last summer I found their collagen coolers to be very tasty, and over the years I had heard high praise for their bone broths. Owner Tessa Yellig posted a long announcement about the closing on Facebook, which ended with the news that she will be continuing her teaching and consulting at Wild Heart Solutions

3. Anchor End Eurocafé and Bakery and Its Beautiful Mural

A new spot is opening up on NE Fremont in the old Thrive Sauce & Bowls space — Anchor End. While I’m sad to see that Thrive shuttered, I’m eager to give Anchor End’s food and drink a try.

2. The Closing of a Neighborhood Restaurant: Goodbye, My Canh

Over on Nextdoor there’s a thread from the weekend entitled, “Bye to best potstickers.” Of course, it immediately caught my eye since I love potstickers and dumplings of all kinds. The news wasn’t good: local Hollywood District Vietnamese/Thai/Chinese restaurant My Canh is closing. This is the kind of family-run place that serves tasty food and offers a menu of dependable and familiar dishes that grow to be beloved by regulars.

1. Progress at H Mart Belmont

Back in July 2017 I wrote about my excitement regarding the opening of H Mart, the very popular Korean grocery store chain, in the old Zupan’s space on Belmont. Since then I certainly wondered what was up. Today I have a better idea. Portland Business Journal wrote, “according to an emailed response from the company in Tigard, H Mart is shooting for an early March opening for the new store.”

  2. It’s always fun looking at the top 5 posts of the year, and always interesting to see what resonates with people (even if it’s an older post). Thanks for the recap!
