Pizza Begets Pizza: New Pizzeria Vincenzo’s Pizza Opening in Old Hogan’s Goat Space

A sausage and peppers pizza from Hogan’s Goat in Rose City Park.

I recently learned that Hogan’s Goat, the pizzeria with one of the most memorable names around, has closed their doors. Final day of service was Friday, July 29. A new pizzeria is opening, though—Vincenzo’s Pizza (and thanks to a Bridgetown Bites reader for the tip).

I ate at Hogan’s Goat a few times and really enjoyed the pizzas and my time spent there. It had a comfortable atmosphere and good vibe going on—they also leveled up their dessert scene in the past year or two. Casual and easy-going, a real neighborhood spot. Their patrons loved them. The name of the place has origins in an old song about this goat who caused a relative amount of mischief.

But as for the new tenant, it’s great to know that they will bring more pizza to the neighborhood. As I mentioned above, they will be called Vincenzo’s Pizza and the folks who are running it (Vinnie and Chelsea) ran Vinnie’s Pizza in downtown Vancouver. They were at it for nine years there, and closed in October 2021. After that, they spent some time in Italy.

So what kind of pizza are they bringing to Portland? “Hand tossed + Sicilian pizza,” according to their Instagram (here’s a little video of one of their Sicilian pies when they were Vinnie’s). Apparently the new venture will include an Italian import shop, too.

Look like they’ll take a few weeks at least to put things together on NE Sacramento Street. I really look forward to see what they bring to the Portland pizza scene, which is one of the best in the country. Very exciting!

Best of luck to the Hogan’s Goat folks on their next adventure, and welcome to the neighborhood, Vincenzo’s Pizza!
