The Gabbiano’s expansion. They’ll be expanding next door into the space that held Lil’ Dame, according to the Portland Business Journal. This additional space will operate as “Gabby’s Next Door” where you can get lunch, and as a private event space. Lunch service will include things like focaccia pizza and soups; you’ll be able to eat in or get takeout. More details in the article. 5425 NE. 30th Avenue, Portland

ICYMI: SNAP Meals roundup. Our list of businesses offering SNAP meals has expanded to 50 at the writing of this blurb. If you or someone you know is hungry, these are some tasty options, and we are grateful for this generosity. Multiple locations

Lollipop Shoppe is closing. This has been all over my social media feeds. They will close this month: “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Lollipop Shoppe will be closing around Thanksgiving. Like a lot of small businesses, we’ve been struggling to make ends meet as operating costs continue to rise. We put every part of us into this venue + it’s hard to say goodbye, but we need to restore our personal + financial balance.” They’ll be taking their sandwiches and cocktails with them. Also, they are asking help to fund their final shows, which you can do on their GoFundMe page. 736 SE Grand Avenue, Portland

Delco Meat Co brings the taste of Philly to Portland. That would be cheesesteaks, roast pork sandwiches, a Rensburger, TastyKake, and Herr’s chips. Delco Meat Co is doing a pop-up with those exact items on Monday, November 10, 4pm to sellout, at Imperial Bottle Shop. Plus there will be a game on TV between teams named for a bird and a canned-meat processor 3090 SE Division Street, Portland

Astera makes the We’re Smart Green Guide 2025 – Top 100. Coming in at 92 out of 100, Astera made it onto this list of Best Vegetables Restaurants. Nice. 1407 SE Belmont Street, Portland

Dadash Grill in Vancouver is open. Their opening day was Wednesday, November 5. They’re offering Turkish food—kebab, pide, meze items, baklava—and they have a very nice case of western-style desserts by the front counter. Should be a nice addition to the area. 8606 E Mill Plain Blvd, Vancouver

Mosaic Taphouse celebrates 2 years. This Saturday, November 8, they’ll be celebrating their two years in business with special anniversary collaboration beers with Breakside, Stoup Brewing, and Level Beer, as well as tapping a special keg from Cantillion at the party. There will be food specials from chémgió, too. DJ Zach Sera will spin from 5pm to 8pm. 7955 N Lombard Street, Portland

Normandie celebrated 7 years. I missed this originally but wanted to highlight that Normandie—sister restaurant to Sunday Sauce—recently celebrated 7 years in the biz. Congrats! 1005 SE Ankeny Street, Portland

The Sweet Potato Sundae is back, at Cheese & Crack. Just in time for the fall season. It’s layers of sweet potato mousse and their vanilla soft serve, pumpkin seed crunch, and topped with burnt marshmallow fluff. ‘Tis the season to enjoy as we head toward Thanksgiving. 22 SE 28th Avenue, Portland

Pawpaw tasting this weekend. Of course it’s at the wonderful One Green World nursery: “You’ve asked us every year and we finally have enough to share! Come by this weekend’s garage sale to get a taste of these tropical treats. Available while supplies last.” Head there Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9, from 10am to 5pm at their retail location in SE Portland.” 6469 SE 134th Avenue, Portland

The Back Patio looks to finally open. A hand-drawn sign on The Back Patio property in Cully, posted to a private Facebook group, shows the words, “Open Soon The Back Patio, taphouse & food truck eatery, hopeful for 11/15/25.” This place has been a long time coming, even back in November 2024 when we reported on it here. We will stop in for sure when they open. 3944 NE Cully Blvd, Portland

Pretty Ugly is also opening soon. This is a new spot from Vijay Kumar of Lulu’s and Silk Road fame—in fact, Pretty Ugly is just about a block west of Silk Road there in the Pearl. My understanding is that they are looking to open in about a week, if not sooner. They’ll have cocktails, beer, and food. This space used to be Mio Sushi. 1317 NW Hoyt Street, Portland

Reeva is closing temporarily. They’ve got some personal stuff going on that precludes them from effectively operating their Roseway pizza truck. Last day of service this month will be Sunday, November 9. Wishing them only the best and hopes for their return. 7727 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland

Bubble N Tea 2 opens tomorrow. We mentioned them a while back and now they are ready to open. Their grand opening is tomorrow at 2pm. Free gift for the first 50 guests. 3307 SE Division Street, Portland

Dick’s Primal Burger asks for help. Located in the Woodstock neighborhood where you can purchase “a bag of Dick’s” from them, this 15-year old burger joint is a great place for those adhering to special diets—gluten free, keto, vegetarian, vegan. And if you like a grass-fed burger (as I do), this is an excellent option.

From an email I received, I learned that they are finding that they are in a precarious financial position and hope to make it to the end of 2025, but are unsure if that will be their reality. So, they would love to see you at the restaurant—stay and eat, get takeout, leave a review, tell your friends. 4905 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland

Dave’s Hot Chicken will take over the Santa Fe Taqueria space. I’d been wondering what’s up with this space for a while, and earlier this week a colleague updated me: Dave’s Hot Chicken is moving in. Santa Fe Taqueria closed September 30, 2024 after 40 years that started out as a converted flower cart at 4th and Morrison. In my research I saw that Reddit shared the news a few weeks ago! Better late than never. 831 NW 23rd Avenue, Portland

There was a fire at Original Dream Pizza in late October. From their Instagram: “On Sunday Oct. 26, our building had a mechanical fire related to a rooftop HVAC unit. Thanks to the quick response by the Portland Fire Bureau, the fire was contained to the roof. However, the interior suffered a significant amount of smoke damage that must be mitigated before we can re-open.” Hopefully it won’t be too long before they are back open. 4620 NE Glisan Street, Portland

Le Fragole is moving. They are leaving the Rose City Food Park for parts unknown, and are closed temporarily as of Tuesday, November 4. They’ll reveal their new location on their Instagram. Location TBD

Rigo’s is moving into the old Hellfired Pizza space in Vancouver. Originally known as The Rock Wood Fired Pizza, Hellfired Pizza shut down in early January. The space is slated to become a Vancouver location of Rigo’s Restaurant, a Latin restaurant serving Mexican food and signature Margaritas. Opening date TBD. 2420 Columbia House Blvd #105, Vancouver

Balong, Cup Coffee, and Salvi, all in one place! Head to Balong this weekend for a pop-up with Cup Coffee and Salvi (their pandan donuts are excellent). They’ll be there together Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9 from 8am to 1:30pm. Also: “Bring 2 to 9 food items and you’ll receive 10% off your order.
Bring 10 or more items and you’ll get a free bag of coffee.
Donations will go directly to Urban Gleaners to get it to those who need it.” 2850 SE 82nd Avenue, #27, Portland
